There is a big naval history of privateers and as described above it would be very appropriate as a real life comparison.

That's exactly what i'd be going for... a Bretonian self sustained ship that would pirate on it's enemies.Bretonia would officialy deny the ships existance. So I wouldn't be connected to bretonia in any other way but resupplying, weapons, fuel...
