Approaching this with an open mind, as someone who uses to fly the factionhheavily several years ago, explain to me the most recent directions CR has taken.
1. CR ceasefire with Outcasts (I've heard some buzz that goes as far as calling it an alliance?). The Colonials and Outcasts have been, or were, fierce enemies with each other for years. Not only have Outcasts and CR contended with each other for territory, but the Outcasts peddle Cardamine (which has been established as a destructive drug) committed acts of piracy and assault in the Taus and above, and crucially made the Slave industry a key factor of their economy and culture (and many Colonials/Crayterians were often liberated slaves that detested the Outcasts).
2. CR going hostile with IMG. IMG have been key allies to CR for years, helping them through thick and thin. Whilst I suppose neutrality with Outcasts could allow for this kind of thing, as they no longer share a common enemy in the Taus anymore, it still seems incredibly left-field. It's pretty much established that IMG got CR to where it is today. Also CR doesn't even have ZoI in o-3, it seems a bit silly to throw that diplomacy out the way with that in mind.
