Have been considering with trying this mod out, but...

Welcome to the server. Before I begin, it should be noted that the answers you will get in this thread will vary greatly depending on the member and their own style of gameplay that they are used to, as well as their age within the community as the mod and its population has gone through several generations.

I myself am an oldie and the Disco mod I remember is a bit different from todays, but I will try to answer on your questions while trying to keep the rose tinted glasses off for a bit.

There was 2 main reasons for why I wanted to try this: my Pessimism tends to "scare" me away from games that're focused on PvP, but on RP focused games (or in this case, Mod) like these, PvP skill/experience are less relevant, right? (especially Competitive PvP, which are probably about nonexistent, I suppose?) Also, like most PvE focused games, I do eventually reach a point where I feel "burnt out on content", but for RP/PvP focused games, the "unpredictability" with the other players keeps the game from getting dull, or at least stalls it.

You must understand that the server we run is the last surviving active FL server out there. While the server and mod and the community around it is RP focused, we have a sizable amount of players who play here for the sake of FL, rather than the RP aspect. Those are the players who, while respecting and acknowledging all RP-related rules of the server, still lean heavily towards PVP and are the people responsible for most PVP related tournaments. If you ever feel like you want to delve deep into the PVP meta of the game, these are the people you want to get in contact with and they are easy enough to find if you ask around.
Competitive PVP is not only quite existant but still plays a major role in RP due to many events regarding radical changes being based around PVP events and you will often see the following discussions about which well-known PVPer players have influenced the outcome of what.

BUT! I have been hesitating, primarily because of two "issues", (which is on my end) which is that, at least when I'm still a "beginner", I feel like I may not be able to roleplay consistently enough.

That is not an issue, we all began somewhere. The best way I can tell you to get better is to treat this game like any story-focused singleplayer game such as MassEffect, Witcher 3, Fallout, etc where you type your character's own responses instead of picking from the dialogue box. Basically read what the player wrote and imagine a dialogue box in front of you and the possible outcomes. Gamifying that imagination can help with how you figure out the response.
After you figure out to do that, you can shift towards the immersion part of the equation and use the dialogue box example less as you go on.

TL;DR it just happens. Do not worry yourself about something that will come naturally without your direct focus on it.

Also, I'm not THAT familiar with "active" roleplaying, and aren't sure if I should do it with fictional ones, or if "fictionalizing myself" is (at least) not uncommon.

This 3rd one might be minor though, "on average", I'm guessing that it's enough when I'd be able to ramain online, without feeling "exhausted" between 30 mins ~ 1 Hour? (straight)

My own typical session is a hour or so. I do not have time in the evenings to indulge. Disco as a perpetual RP session is fun in a way that it is like a DND game you can hop on and hop off at will. If you want to keep track of what goes on in your absence, just skim through the forum RP threads and message dumps every now and again for the region you are interested in.

The question as to what to base your character around is a bit tricky. I was introduced in the following way - if you do not have experience how to build a character from scratch and the idea of a self-insert character is a bit cringy for you, take a TV/Game/Movie character you know well enough and RP them. Do not reference them of course, do not use their name - but if you already know the character and how they would respond to any situation - it makes it all the more easier.

Want a cocky danger-loving man of action? Play the equivalent of Indiana Jones. Want a sagely pacifist who will deliver damage if pressed? Play uncle Iroh from Avatar.

As for what roles I'd go for, *IF* it's not uncommon, after "playing around"/Experimenting in Single Player: When I'm flying a Transport, (and probably with some team exercises) I can "manage"/give "orders" to those who're escorting me, and (probably) later on, whichever Capital Ship is fitting for a small "skirmish" team. (or whatever the equivalent is when I'm commanding a few ships/players at a time)

I assume that with transport/capital ships, "Piloting Skill" are less relevant than Aim?

I have a tutorial on the subject of capital ship pvp and how it differs from regular small ships, check it out. It is kinda required to know this.
As for the roles - I highly suggest you keep in mind that you can have as many characters as you can. If you even for a moment think that the role you chose for the character is less than you hoped for, shelve it and make a different one.

Also, I feel like I have the potential to be a efficient businessman... or a Manager of some sort. ('course, there's alot of info that I'd need to catch up on first)
As for Factions (& Whatnot): have a hard time deciding between Interspace Commerce and Orbital Spa & Cruise, and would appreciate some more insight, to help me decide which one I'd be suited for. IF there are any that'd be better suited to me, compared to the 2 I mentioned.

I am sad to say that actual realistic portrayal of business management is non-existent in the game. The best I can imagine is players setting up large scale mining ops, running cargo to players stations that request them and involved in piracy against event-cargo runners. For 99% of the cases, you trade for the credits you require to make your characters. The trader character itself is often very basic in comparison as your attention is to dump a few hours into credits so that you can save up for the gear you wanted to deck out another character in.
