Field Report 02/13/827
At roughly 1800 hours today I began my recon of the Omicron Delta system. Initial patrol sweep around the Freeport showed clear scanners, but upon approach of planet Nauru my scanner was flooded with multiple ships varying in size and IFF. Upon closer inspection it was a skirmish between the forces of the Core and the Order's warships assisted by a Coalition cruiser and numerous bomber pilots.
In the whole fray there were also a number of ships that agent Siren might have an interest in. Ships with faulty IFFs, mix and match of various factions' equipment and what would look like advanced alien prototype weaponry. Scan data is incomplete, but from initial measurements their technology could rival if not beat our adaptations of the alien weaponry. What is also interesting to note is that among them was also a BDR-804 "Guardian" with prototype weaponry that fled as soon as I tried to intercept it. This would be the second such ship I have encountered in the Omicrons, the other one being destroyed by a gunboat missile. Neither time did the pilot try to open communications with me and instead was either evasive or hostile upon contact.
At roughly 1840 hours I was joined by agent Sasquatch and together with the help of some Core pilots we managed to take out an Order gunboat that had strayed away from the rest of the Order battlegroup in Nauru's high orbit. Unfortunately due to limited firepower that was our only notable success against the Order's forces and at 1915 hours I disengaged from the scene and returned to base for refuel and more detailed damage assessment on my ship.
At 2150 hours in Manhattan's high orbit I picked up the signal of an Outcast fighter circling outside of the defense perimeter. Contact was talkative and tried to lure me towards Westpoint. Agent Warden arrived on the scene soon after and we trailed the pirate along the lane towards the academy station. The pirate's intention soon became obvious as another Outcast appeared on scanners. A duo of mercenaries engaged them prematurely before we could further assess the full scope of the situation.
The pirates quickly made short work of the mercenary fighter and turned their guns on the gunboat forcing agent Warden and I to attempt and save the gunboat. The mercenary was of more trouble than use in the fight, causing a torpedo detonation close enough to catch agent Warden's ship in the blast radius. The hostiles took the initiative and focused his damaged ship, forcing Warden to eject, but not before doing enough damage to their heavier fighter craft and giving me the opportunity to finish it off quickly with just a single mine detonation. The second pirate piloted a lighter strike craft, which was much easier to overpower in a direct confrontation and his ship's decommission came much easier.
Reassessing the situation now, I believe we made a crucial mistake not to focus the lighter craft first. That coupled with the pressure caused by the unneeded interference of the mercenaries led to unnecessary losses that could have likely been avoided should the situation have been handled differently.
In service to the Republic.
