The stress of an admin is great and at many times irritating. When I helped admin on Excelcia way back in the day, there was an Admin that was in the military on top of that. At the time, I was only sixteen years old and because I had lots of freetime after my homework, I was able to take up a lot of the workload, but that's another story. The guy was army, and he had a 12 hour work day, and then on top of that he had to monitor the server for cheaters (this was when the cheat software first came out and cheaters could still get through a lot of the times). The poor guy worked himself to death with the server and his normal job...and players still b****ed!! I was shocked. Many times I simply told the players to calm down and reel their wants in, but it only got worse, to the point where I simply threw my hands up and took on the full workload so that he wouldn't have to suffer.
The point being, being an admin of a server, espically a large one like Discovery is frusterating. When you have a job like I do being in the military and what not, you don't have a chance to sit down and take a breather. Many other jobs are the same way. Simply put, the job as an Admin is done for our own free time, we don't get anything out of it, all we get is the satasfication that we have made a place where people can come play and have fun, and we rarely get praise for it (admins do here, which is a nice treat).
So, in summary, let me tell you, that being an Admin is no cake walk. At the end of your work day, many people, including me, just want to vedge out and relax, to let our bones rest. But, when you're an Admin, you have to check the server. Hardware settings, make sure the CPU is running at the proper tempature, make sure the entire computer in general isn't making any unusual noises, make sure the RAM usage is at the right levels and not running to the point of blowing up. Then check the load of the server programs itself, make sure there are no cheaters, make sure the server hasn't been crashing over and over...
If you want to be an Admin, seriously think and consider your life. Do you have enough time to do it with your job or school. Are you prepared to handle all the hounding you might get from players, no matter if it's rude or simply asking questions. Are you mature enough to handle the stress of players asking questions?
