To update on the nomad fleet sighted in Kappa recently, earlier that day our liaisons stationed in Freeport 11 had heard rumours a new type of nomad dreadnought was spotted in the vicinity. They urgently contacted the Reconnaissance and Rapid Response (RARR) department and in reply dispatched a small wing fighters to investigate the claims.
Our fighters had no trouble finding the ship, a large nomad fleet was roaming the system and in the centre was the rumoured threat. On first glance the ship appears to be a standard Ish'tar class dreadnought, but our pilots noted it had some sort of energy rings emanating from its core, which the standard class didn't have. It also seems the rumour had became general knowledge, as a sizeable human fleet with a mixture of Core, Order and Zoner ships had already gathered preparing to attack. What our pilot then saw became blindingly obvious how much more power this new threat holds. Any ship trained on by the new weapon was soon to be vaporised by its intensive laser weapons in less than a minute. The field was soon littered with disabled warships all around.
Fortunately, with all the factions temporarily united towards a common cause, there was enough firepower to sink this new threat after a prolonged engagement. In addition, our combat data analysts having reviewed the aftermath suggest the ship had a very abnormal growth, and must have taken the nomads a very long time to plan this. Unlikely they can generate this ship en masse but it is still a very concerning what they can achieve and their true plan with this encounter remains unknown. It is also worth noting from this incident that we lack a specialised reconnaissance vehicle. A dedicated ship of this type could have detected such anomalies in advance rather than relying on rumours which could cost lives.
------------
On a separate note, our fighters somehow managed to acquire what we believe to be unknown energy source; salvaged from a nomad warship wreckage after the battle.
Frustratingly, as all of our dedicated science team and lab equipment are separated with the Great Voyage homeships, we currently do not have the means to identify what exactly this thing is. Nonetheless, we have ran the security checks and concluded this alien construct is not "alive". For the moment we have stored this item in a Beryllium safe box, secured in our monitored vault until we have the right people to analyse it.
