A few days ago, while roaming in Colorado system, I have encountered a hacker, a transport and a Xeno gunboat.
After not too long, XA- vessels started to come. To a total of three players from the faction, with the 1ic present.
He has started to conduct his RP with the transport, and my character’s RP is to taunt people, due to ID limitations.Meanwhile one of the players switched to a freighter and the other one approached me, XA-Bull(A Fighter-Bomber ). Guy stood in front of me, so I started moving. Suddenly, without warning, said player started shooting at me, even after I have send him a pm mocking his nonexistent engagement lines, in the hopes he’d understand that what he’s doing is wrong. I have then decided not to fire upon the vessel.
I find this a rather bad look on an official faction, especially when their leader was there present.
You were given several warnings in roleplay since your character was taunting people in the area. It's not necessary for people to explicitly say "I am engaging" for it to be valid according to the current rule system or just in the course of roleplay either. Discretion is key. And in your case you did rile up the wrong character and stuck around for far too long after being warned.
For your benefit, the current rules state that an engagement must be preceded by at least two lines of roleplay and ten seconds between those lines and the actual firing of your weapons resulting in an engagement. That is it, there are no further stipulations regarding what should be said. But there are standards against being lazy about it. Such as doing things like "I see red. I engage." Which would be looked down upon for obvious reasons.
In your case, you were speaking aggressively to a faction known for aggression, being responded to quite consistently and there were consequences for this. I understand why this might not necessarily be the most pleasant outcome, but it's hardly not logical when you consider the circumstances. I would encourage you to see this from a wider perspective and consider those factors.
