That's the rules as the current group of admins choose to enforce them, but not the rules as they should be enforced.
Thats a good way to piss them off before they even say anything. They made their ruling on the 522nd case and I respect it. We shall see if it does stand in this case.
now as far as the issue seperating the factions that would work if the ruling came down that we were automaticaly a faction and had 2 follow faction rules. You can be a fighter/bomber escort with a trader ID so one half would be the traders.
The Smugglers are unlawful so to speak and would need their own group.
The Mercs could be just that, Mercs. Its like a subcontractor for a company, example:
I used to work for the Intel Corporation. They had many many subcontractors. One such company was AMAT. They are one of the leaders in the semiconductor industry. Some of the people I worked with were employed by AMAT with an exclusive contract to Intel. Some people at AMAT worked for AMD with an exclusive contract. Some people worked for Intel exclusively but only worked on AMAT equipment.
The Mercs would be a subcontractor available to both groups, like AMAT is available to both Intel and AMD. They would not be in any faction.
Another very underused class is the trader fighter, which includes bombers.
Quote:Trader ID
Pilot carrying this ID is a trader. Trader ID grants its owner right to trade, escort traders, hunt pirates and terrorists. Trader ID owner cannot participate in any unlawful actions or military operations, cannot fulfil bounty contracts.
Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters, Transports
You cant take bounties but you can escort and hunt pirates. Rather limiting but can be used in place of a merc, would be really good RP for the 'lawful' trader.
Quote:Smuggler ID
Pilot carrying this ID is a smuggler. Smuggler ID grants its owner right to trade and escort traders. In addition to that, the Smuggler ID indicated good reputation within the Sirius unlawful factions, and is commonly used to carry smuggled goods to and from pirate bases. Smuggler ID owner cannot participate in any military operations and cannot fulfil bounty contracts.
Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters, Transports
It wouldnt be worth it to have a smuggler escort IMHO which is where the merc comes in. With traders, only unlawfuls will be after you so the ability to hunt pirates has that covered. However the smuggler will be harassed by both pirates and lawfuls, and therefore a merc would be a good idea for a wingman.so again if it is ruled that this gruop is a faction per se, it would go pretty much like aki said
[Traderclan].Your.Name (trader ID no IFF)
[Smugglerclan].Your.Name (smuggler ID no IFF)
merc_with_no_tag (merc ID no IFF)
The 2 factions would be allied, non system owning allied factions that emply mercenaries. This will make our liberty RP rough but managable.
Quote:Yes, exactly. I think this is a great idea and I've been waiting for someone to come up with something like this ever since I joined disco a few months ago. Which at the same time condemns it. It seems too good to be true. Hopefully, we could pull off awesome RP in-game that would cause others to extricate their opinions but I'm not too optimistic about that either. There will be complaints which will lead to action on the admins' behalf. Despite that, I say go for it and see how far you can get.
Excellent. I PM'd one admin that I found 'on' earlier, I dont want to harass them. In the meantime I will PM everyone interested the info as soon as I know how it will be done.
Does anyone see the 2 faction way being against ANY server rule/prior ruling? It seems pretty solid to me.
