I think it's a good idea, but improbable to do, if not impossible. It could be done, I think, but I think it would require dozens of players constantly playing in the conflict. Yes, cruisers duking it out whilst battleships raining fire and death down upon dogfighting light-fighters would make for some excellent role-playing, not to mention that it would be incredibly fun and challenging for those invloved, but short of doing the whole thing over destructible space stations i don't think it could be managed without drastically altering the game files. Freelancer isn't designed like the big-name MMOs, territories can't really change. It's a good idea, and I'd like to see it happen, but I don't think it can.

Besides, the Houses are already occupied with war, I don't think it could really work with the smaller factions. Although, maybe if the players take a larger (see: much, much larger) role in the wars, something might be able to worked out. I don't know, that would probably be impossible.
