Though we all know about the Corsair threat to Bretonia and the ongoing conflict with Kusari which threatens to devour the House completely, few people outside Bretonia have heard of the internal political struggle that has been weakening the House since the beginning of this year.
Former Home Secretary Lord Anthony Grenville passed away today within a maximum security cell inside the HMS-Grimsby in Newcastle. Grenville, being accused of abuse of power for personal gain, or a lesser charge of treason in the Bretonian Parliament, committed suicide using a dinner plate and scalding mashed potatoes to first gouge a hole in his throat, then seal his throat by using the mashed potatoes as a type of cauterizing tool. With his airways blocked, the former Home Secretary suffocated before a medical team could be called.
Though the suicide only proved that Grenville had indeed been guilty of his charge, the case was simply a formality. Upon review, several of his bills, including the cutting of the HMS-Norfolk's staff by one tenth, were clear abuse of his power for his own personal gain. Some are even starting to wonder why Grenville was put into his position in the first place. Even so, his service will not be missed.
In related news, Police Commissioner Aidan Greene has also been arrested. Found today charging a freelancer with fictitious crimes, he too is subject to charges of treason and incompetence in the field. When asked about his charges, Greene responded with "I don't know what is going on, but I know that I won't be in the Newgate forever. I'll get out sometime, and when I do, I'll get that pirate. He shot me and I am very bitter about it. A grudge one thousand times over." Apparently these charges were not unfounded either.
It is yet unclear as to who will be appointed Home Secretary by Parliament, and in turn, who will be appointed Police Commissioner. For now, all the rest of Sirius can really do is watch and hope for Bretonia's continued future.
