Although there are some internal problems which are too big for the police to handle, for example, the Hellfire Legion in Liberty. But yes I do see your point as a lot of Military units engage pirates too. SO yeah

Thats a hit. Exactly how it works in Sirius.

The Military is there to ensure the house and border security with more weight on the borders. They keep out the trouble. They are the wall.
Inner Military patrols or fleetyards with lots of Military patrols only take care about special situations with a much higher risk and when bigger guns are needed.

The Police keeps up the law and order within a house. They check stations, settle brawls in bars, check traders, levy fines, keep traffic flowing and have an eye out for criminals around stations and between the lanes.
The common troublemakers getting arrested.


Rheinland is maybe a verry good example. We only have the [RM] around. There was a time when we had a few RFP guys lending us a hand.
Whenever the RFP was around, we did not care about traders, traffic jams, spammed com frequencies or the common trouble pilots caused. Their job, not ours. Also certain unlawfulls got "tagged police only".
Meaning the LWB or bundschuhs were police work, unless their numbers were larger. Hessians are mostly former Military pilots, so its logical that the RM took on them.
When they are not around the RM juristiction got expanded to uphold the law.
Since this is a server with only 200 people and lots of them play something else than police, its obvious what to do. Let the Military do the police job as well. Not doing it would look odd. Also a reason why the IDs got rolled back to the current state.
