Trying to beat a more agile fighter with your own agility is wrong. In some situations it's better to slow down, and even get into the habit of using turret view with a fighter. Know when and when not to use engine kill, mines and missiles. In some cases it's even worthwhile stopping dead and flicking between forward and turret view (choose a better key). Don't forget it's possible to fire forward guns in turret view, there is a much better arc. Assuming your more agile opponent has less armor and firepower, try to force him/her into a head-on confrontation.

If you are fighting a ship that is more agile than you use your strong points.
Eagle: Good turning rate and good firepower.
Using engine kill turning around and using thruster against a LF in a head to head pass. The ship with more, and stronger, weapons will almost always do more damage than the LF or less powered fighter.
Titan: High armor and good firepower.
Use its armor. Head to heads also work well here but also using turret view here works well too.
Sabre: Good armor and high firepower.
Try head to heads as much as possible. Fire at the other person as much as you can as you might get lucky and hit them. This method is usually known as spray and pray.
