Being able to trade - If you want to stick to one faction it must be able to make money.
Being able to shoot [Nomads, Wilde, Freelancer, Independant Pirate, Smuggler, Mercenary, Junker, Hogosha]. - I dislike unknowns who bridge between unlawful and lawful. I want to be able to shoot those at will.
RPing a businessmen - Goes with being able to trade.
RPing a soldier - It's a space shooter after all.
A good rank structure - Makes things clear for everyone. Good members - A must for any faction. A large amount of members - Helps with faction activity
Can dock anywhere/a lot of places - Helps with giving a faction a lot of options.
A large variety of possibilities, Mining/Trading/Fighting in one faction - Helps with giving a faction a lot of options
Being Official - The rights bestowed on official factions tend to give you a little more oomph as a faction.
Can do Legal and Illegal stuff - Gives you more options in roleplay. Note that "illegal stuff" is more then just shoot-the-transport piracy.
