A call out was given regarding Colonial Republic ships near Ouray. I undocked from our base in Kepler and proceeded to Colorado at best speed. On arrival near Ouray, I was advised that the Colonial ship had been put down. It was then decided by flight lead to move towards California by way of Ontario and I moved to point scout with my griffon towards the jump hole. No contacts were indicated and we jumped to Ontario.
From Ontario to California there were no contacts. However, immediately upon jumping to California a Lane Hacker gunship bearing the tag SOB appeared on scanners. After some talk by the senior members of the flight wing, combat was initiated and the gunship fled to Ontario. I and the others jumped as well and he was promptly CD'd and shortly thereafter was put down. I retrieved the pilot's escape pod and was ready to proceed to base with the prisonr. Flight lead, however, gave orders to proceed to New York so back through to California and New York we went.
As one of the faster ships, on reaching New York I broke off to scout and encountered a Liberty Navy ship on the lane to West Point. He made it to the lane before I could cut the dock sequence, however. I did manage to terrify an OS&C liner hauling alloys instead of passenger by continually cutting the lanes on him, but he had too much armor and shield for my tiny snub. Flight lead announced enemy contact and I let the liner go. On the way to the fight I encountered a DSE repair ship on the lane to Manhattan. I warned the pilot about the mistreatement by DSE of it's employees and suggested he find an employer that had real concern about its people.
On reaching the the combat area there were two LN snubs and a gunboat and I immediately announced my intention to enter the fray. During the fight, Annaconda was destroyed by the gunboat. About the same time an ION storm came out of nowhere and shut down all sensors and pushed us between 30k and 50k from the scene. We quickly proceeded back, and entered combat with the Liberty Navy shps once again. While dodging from the guardian I caught a full blast from the gunboat, and again a glancing hit from its guns as I turned. By this point I was low on regens due to several mine explosions and turned to make a final run at the guardian. I headed directly for him, boxing my way to him. Just outside of normal mine range I hit full thruster while releasing mines as fast as I could, dragging them in my wake. I saw the guardian release a mine as well and just before contact range I fired my last CD, detonating all four mines, taking the Navy pilot with me in the massive explosion.
While this was not my intended end, while in Ontario the flight lead did say "Let's go suicidal in New York." My apolgies if my actions took that statement a bit too literally.
