Quote:Right, uh, is this thing on? Okay, good.
Man, is it awkward talkin' to a microphone.
[There is an audible sigh.]
Okay, uh, my name's Marisa Marshall - Mum thought the name was pretty; she got it out of a book - and I wanna join the Liberty Navy. I guess you mighta figured that one out by now. Yeah.
Uh, I was born on Planet Leeds - ya know, the one with Gauls all over it right now - and it was pretty okay, I guess. That's what I was told, anyway.
[There is a brief pause]
Actually, no, it was kinda crap. Or woulda been. It's kinda polluted. Like, a lot polluted. Mum moved us just after we were born, 'cause she didn't want me breathing in all them chemicals and smog and stuff. Dunno how she got the permits for relocation, 'specially to Cambridge of all places, but all I know is I don't think I'd've liked growin' up back on Leeds nearly as much. We went back a coupla times to visit the relatives - just a week or so, you know? - and man, it was friggin' rank. Nothin' like good old home.
Anyway, uh...normal childhood life, yada yada - attached all the files on that stuff already - um...
Oh, reason for applying. Probably shouldn't forget that, huh?
[There is a nervous laugh, followed by some muttering.]
Man, it's really awkward talkin' to a microphone.
Uh, well, I moved to Liberty about a year ago - you can double-check all the immigration paperwork an' all, I'll send a copy along with this - 'cause Cambridge wasn't doing it for me any more. Call it wanderlust or whatever. The economy's doin' crap back home as well, what with the Gauls wreckin' us and all. Frig all jobs or anything, 'less you wanna enlist or something. That kinda sucks. I woulda joined the Armed Forces, but - and I don't wanna sound like I'm not patriotic or somethin' - but they haven't been doin' much good for a while now. I mean, first Kusari and now some French house nobody'd even heard of before now? Seriously? I mean, I just haven't got the confidence in 'em.
But anyway, uh, I figured I could do somethin' to help. Since Liberty's at war, as well. And get paid for doin' it, right? I know it's dangerous work, and I'm not exactly a veteran merc or anythin', but I figure I got the motivation and all covered. That's half the battle, right? And don't get me wrong, I know all the Gallia stuff's just a small part of what the Navy does. I'm still willin' to take the whole lot on, you know? Policin' and all. And dealing with the Rheinboys. Never really liked those lot anyway. I know how to follow orders, an' all.
[There is another, longer pause.]
Uh - is that everything? I guess so, right?
Look, uh, if you guys want anythin' cleared up or I forgot to mention something real vital or anythin', just message me back, okay? I got you guys on high-priority notifications, so I'll be sure to receive it.
