Wow, how long has this pointless exercise in futility gone on? Complain all you like, there will ALWAYS be one-line/no-time engagers, pirates, hunters, traders, whatever, know why? Because people are jerks. RPing has NOTHING to do with it, that's just the veiled cloak they use as an excuse to validate the nonsense they pull.
As I'm currently mostly doing trading runs, I particularly hate Rogues and the like who break the trading lane and within seconds I'm suddenly space dust, whether I reply or run. At least in the natural encounters I have a somewhat decent chance to escape, although it is a bit confusing when NPC Rogues break the trading lane but are suddenly neutral and bugger off.
Ultimately, RPing is meant to be fun, but other people get more fun and satisfaction, perhaps a raging boner, from blowing some-one out of the sky. If these Sudden Death* encounters are supposed to be considered "RPing", I clearly must have lost my definition of roleplay in the last 11 years that I've done it.
So yes, people are jerks, get used to it, there's NOTHING we can do about it.
*Edit: And yes I do mean SUDDEN DEATH because whether you RP with the Rogue or not, it's usually some-one with enough firepower or backup to instakill anyway, so Fight or Flight = Death, it's a predictable (boring+annoying) outcome, we're gonna lose our stuff/money anyway, so is this really RP or just abusing your power for your own gain?
Edit 2: To FURTHER compound the truth of the matter. It comes down to stats and your confidence in the numbers represented on your guns and your shields, knowing that your target may not have the same stat-based edge over you, who needs RP when you've got better guns than the other guy? You're gonna win anyway, who cares? All right it's a given that some people might get overconfident and get murdered instead of winning like they think they would but its that same overconfidence in stats that can really drive up your "I'mma kill you anyway" Ego.
