' Wrote:I tell you what, being an Admin is no easy task. We get flooded with sanction reports, a lot of which aren't anything too serious and we do our best to address them. I also notice that it's often the same people who make these reports, sometimes more than one a day. My point? I think some have forgotten that sanctioning is a last resort.
For both Moderators and Admins, no matter what we do, someone will always not like a decision we make. It comes with the job. We do it because we actually very much enjoy the community we play in. I ran my own game clan for 10 years before Disco and I thought managing that group was tough! There are a lot more people and thus, personalities and egos, to manage here. With new people coming regularly, it never gets easier.
All of us have to balance this game with RL which often takes away from the "diligence" we would like to put in. It's not that we don't care, it's that we have RL obligations to tend to.
Solution:
Accept only sanction reports, if the reporter has talked to the reported player before.
Sanctionlancer?
We need actually a new rule:
Quote:0.1
If you fill out a rule violation report, you have to proof, that you have talked to this reported player before. A rule violation report is the last resort.
If you become ignored by the player, you talk to, or a "LULZ" only, feel free to fill out a rule violation report. But you must try to discuss it with him first.
' Wrote:hehehe...then he can report you for rule lawyering
No, he can't. The rules lawyer rule falls under 'It's not what you say, it's how you say it.' I remember the admins pointing this out quite a long time ago.
Examples:
A: "YOU BROKE THE RULE I'MA SANCTION YOU!"
B: "Yo, man, might want to check the rules, I don't think you can do that."
A will get you in strife, B, less likely to, though it's still possible.
/offtopic.
I can't say much about what Boss posted, to post my thoughts would offend a lot, and I mean, a -lot- of people.
-a whole bunch of people who do have fun playing to change their style of playing for you to be happy?
-the admin team to get mobbed under the table when there is a very short list of suitable replacements?
-everyone to like you so they can end up on the good people list? (after all there's people very much more alike than your personal point of view suggests on both the good and the bad list)
You're aiming too high gringo.
Now go and help some pilots find their way back to the airport safely!
Ehhh.. I honestly have to call you out on this one, Eno.
Quote:-a whole bunch of people who do have fun playing to change their style of playing for you to be happy?
The style of playing of most of the people on his bad list involves shooting things. I don't see how a change of policy would affect that at all.
Quote:-the admin team to get mobbed under the table when there is a very short list of suitable replacements?
There are actually plenty, but if I were to go off and make a list like Boss did I'd be accused of bias. (lol)
As for people not wanting the job, I imagine most of the good ones don't want it because they can't change frakall with the current admin team still kicking around.

I don't think it's so much that as he doesn't want the ones on the 'bad' list to have any real influence around here. Which is funny, because out of those only Joe and Zelot really do.

As I always say, if you want something done right, do it yourself. Ain't possible on disco, but yeh, you're right.
I still dont understand, he says nice things about me, but I am not the bad list? It's like he felt like he needed to include me but had no good reason why.
People yell don't take it seriously.
Bring up a Zoner/Admin/Corsair/Order topic, 10+ pages in 3 hours most probably.
Clearly there's at least a small chunk of the community that do care.
It's like walking into a room full of men and women, demanding that they all become men/women instantly.
It just won't happen and if it did, it would screw things over.
It is quite lulzy though.
This thread is full of folks 'disapproving' of Boss's name calling.
If he did not, it would actually be feeding the thing he's trying to point out.
The behind the scenes malignant workings that people see every day on skype.
Instead he posts it in a thread to try prove a point.
Band of amigo's rolls in and throws cheese at him.
Discovery is at a point where people are afraid to discuss things with one another in any public way, encase others find out.

That isn't a good community.
It's because people have become too exclusive, back in my lurking-lolwut days, I can remember reading the forums on one of my long-dead accounts. Tell you what I saw? EVERYONE having a laugh or two, and none of this passive-aggressive bull hockey you see now. Skype...? Well, I'm kinda' sad I ever bothered with it, I've seen a lot of

This, and dished some out myself.
To surmise, this community has gone to the dogs in the way of a 'social' gaming experience, we might as well roleplay with the NPCs on singleplayer.
' Wrote:edit: Wait, I have power? When did that happen?
Probably around the same time you started leading your first faction, whichever one that was or whenever it was. I have power too. So does Dab, Joe, Dieter, and so on and so forth.
The so called cancer of disco on that list are the ones that go to people like you, me, and the other people listed for new pewsticks, new pixel ships, etc. To say you don't posess any power at all is silly, to be frank.
As for being a mod, I don't think that's so big a deal as being a faction leader or admin, but I could be dead wrong.
Does anyone realize that I dont lead any factions, and I haven't in probably half a year? I dont give out tech to anyone. And if I could, when I could, I basically gave it to anyone who asked.
Anyhow, yea, mods no big power, I just get to yell about cussin.
