Since obviously. all pirates must be drowning in money, yet ive never seen them pirating a cargo ship for food so they have something to eat.
I have seen plenty of sairs pirating for food. Happens all the time. And not all of the so-called pirate Houses are poor. The Outcast are filthy rich, and if an OC wants to pirate to demonstrate his superiour ship, weapons and skills that is perfectly within the RP-boundaries of this faction. Other factions - like Hackers or some of the Rheinland pirates - have political goals, certain corporations they want to damage, but that is the minority of pirate factions. True, OC have en inherent hatred towards cryer and synth weed, but when there are no cryer players, really, then where would it leave the OC if they were ONLY to pirate cryer?
Most indie pirates are loners, desperately whizzing up and down the trade lanes, looking for just a tiny amount of money to cover their bills. For this type of pirate any trader is a valid target.
All in all I think ppl just need to stop crying. Ursus himself said he made 600 mil in 3 days, even after having been pirated and destroyed - I have no qualms taxing ppl like that severely. And I have no qualms with ppl taxing me severely, because the fact of the matter is that making money (once you have a BW transport) is dead easy.
Edit: I mean do you really need that extra CAU VIII Dreadnought? Really?
I'll add to what I said earlier and say that sometimes, no matter how much armor, no matter how much cargo or credits your willing to give, sometimes there is nothing you can do when you crash your Percheron into a nest of Xeno's. Trust me, its death no matter what you do.
Allways remember, this is a game, just dust yourself off, buy up your batts/botts, grab some cargo and try again. But most important of all, learn from your mistakes
You see that's the thing about pirates. If they had rules they wouldn't be pirates because they do what they damn well please!!!
So stop bitching and either get an escort or just suck it up and pay up because as prysin said you make about 15 times as much as a pirate and those 2 or 3 milllion credits don't hurt you!!!!
Yes of course. Unless you meet cargo pirates or stupid piratse three times in a run.
Get your calculations straight.
Pirates in discovery mostly SUCK.
Most of them sit on ore routes, preying on the traders hauling ore. And believe me, when you pay 1/3 of profit for the cargo and then you get pirated for another 50%, you get with out with so little its not worth it.

But yeah, pirate win. lolno
So let me get this straight: You are angry at pirates when they employ a profit-maximizing strategy? That is only allowed for traders or what? Where is the logics to that? And yes Ore Trading is a major piracy magnet - why don't you do different trade routes if piracy aggrevates you so much?
And yes, most pirates SUCK. So does most TRADERS, and most BS CAPTAINS - most players on disco display minimal or no RP, or only press the big "Commence RP button" when it is on their premises, which is equally lame. Most traders will either run silently, refuse to pay a dime out of silly OORP reasoning or try to scam the pirate by either pretending not to know English or taking advantage of the pirate player's goodwill by stalling and calling for backup, so the "suckiness" goes both ways.
What YOU can do is to make sure your own RP is up to standards in each and every encounter, like the RP-interested pirate does in his, and perhaps salvage what you can from situations with OORP-players and not let it get to you.
Then pay someone to escort you.
When you get pirated more than once on one run, it's a good deal. And FLs and mercs of any kind have to pay their bills too.
Or if you don't want to do it, join some faction that will help you defend your cargo.
The only thing that makes people cry about piracy is greed.
If you're too greedy to pay for escorts, you get pirated.
If you're too greedy to pay pirates 2 mils, start to argue and end up with 8milRdie - yeah, that's your problem too.
If you're too greedy to start a police char to hunt down pirates a bit - guess who's to blame about piracy...
Oh, and one more question: what do you need all this cash for? Another cap? Just to feel more powerful?
Yeah - good guess - it's a kind of greed too.

Sounds to me like you know exactly where the pirates are.........and yet you're still flying there, and with an escort at that.
If you mine how can you meet a pirate more than once on one run? If you trade SUCK it up!!! And if you meet cargo pirates, which I have NEVER encountered, try to bargain! That's motherloving RP!!! Stop the gay ooRP and play the game the wait was meant to be played!
