Whatever they do I hope they dont mess with the Transport and Large Transport ships they are fine just as they are.
Ive fought off inexperienced VHFs with mine but Id rather hire escorts to do that work when its needed.

This place is about RP and what better way to RP a trader than to hire protection for your cargo ships?
INTERACT with other players instead of running trade alone!

It's more than that.

Some of these ships are specifically designed to survive while trading alone, yet they tend to fail at it miserably. A Luxury Liner should be hiring an escort for his trade routes, whereas something like a Bumblebee/Armored Transport or a Pirate Transport should be able to "lonegun" it. This has little to do with Transport balance or anything of the sort, but it's more about point and purpose of a ship. Some of these ships as a concept simply assume that you're going to be flying alone, and their abilities should reflect that.

Nearly everyone's using Advanced Trains, Luxury Liners, and so on because there's absolutely no incentive to use anything else. The bigger ships survive better (even when they probably shouldn't, honestly) AND they make you more money. Most of the other transports are just "goto" ships, ships that you buy and use to get the next best ship.

Adding torpedoes n' such to certain Transports wouldn't be overpowering, I don't think. Torpedoes on a transport are generally only going to be useful against other transports/GB's/ships your size or larger than you, it'll be rather difficult to hit a Bomber or a Fighter with a torpedo when you're flying something that has the agility of a Gunboat (or worse). It's hard enough to torpedo Bombers with a VHF, doing it with a Transport is going to be stupidly difficult.

Yeah, I'm aware that some of these Transports do have CD slots, but they're all but pointless mostly. What would a Royal Liner use a CD for? Since when does a commercial Liner chase down it's foes? The same is true with other ships like the Bumblebee, which has only 5 turrets.. You're not going to take down another Transport with it if it's larger than you, more than likely.

What I'd like to see is more pirates converting to heavily armored "rigs" that're designed solely to hijack other ships of their cargo. This is how it's supposed to be in the Freelancer setting.

i tend to pirate in my pirate transport quite effectively. which is great, using it alot lately
for the smaller transports however i would suggest increasing thruster speed, you got fighters dancing round ya at 200, and yet your going at the same speed as a train but your half the size.
maybe increasing bots/bats for all transports, they got high amount of cargo space, but no enough room for b/bs. which is what you really need, transports wouldnt need improving if you could regen you shields more than twice.

With transports you can regenerate an awful load of times... that's enough, really. I usually manage to kill decent fleeing adv. trains found in alaska gate at about 5-9k of the TX JG- norfolk lane, and that's with a bomber... and that's a long way to do in impulse/thruster... while hitting a bunch of pods on the way..

balance itself is quite good, i wouldn't go and make transports harder to kill, I'd just make them more costumizable. I wouldn't give a single of them a torpedo slot... as then you just mount supernova and kill of capital ships... (Althou that would be fun and heroic... i'm nut up to that kind of ballance) but forward guns perhaps. Diffrent types of turrets, keep them all at their current level, but perhaps some 3.03 refire or some with 1.00 refire, some tiniy variations. To keep the balance where it is, but change the "there comes another train" rutine...

Possibly on pirate transport/trains a forward mounted gunboat gun which can only fire directly forward.

I'm all for changing the Transport equipment a bit...toss in some missiles, some forward guns, etc...(can an Armoured transport fire a gb forward cannon?)
Honestly, we have an empty turret class to play around with, so we could do something creative....ranged weapons and short weapons, give the weapons types like normal guns (tachyon, lazer, plasma, etc)

I think the Idea of a hugely inefficient CD weapon for transports would be an idea a 360 degree transport razor? Killing a hell of a lot of power but not being as effective s the battle razor.

Please, give us variation in transport weaponry! It's just so bland...
What chooses do I have when I buy a transport? I can choose the type of adv. transport shield. But I would probably always choose graviton. Then I can only fill the turret hardpoints with lvl4 transport turrets and go. Shield is the only room for decision! With most transports anyway.

One exception is the Armored transport with its forward guns. Also with AT I put transport turrets only on the 3 side/top hardpoints, because on the rest they look awful and overlap. I use fighter turrets on the rest - hooray! I have something to choose from! Maybe that's why I like the AT...
