Thank you! We are working right now on this matter.
Maybe we will meet in space soon (2 days).

i tried an indy osc for a month or two a coupla years back, and found that if you stick to delivering passengers, then that gets stale quickly, but you can have all sorts of other shady dealings like cardamine smuggling and artifact importation, as well as collecting hypnotainment bands and illegal software, etc

Indeed! Surely will add more fun, more RP ingame etc, but I repeat: this will always be treated as an individual action or as an incident... and... if one of our pilots will be caught by authorities, will be punished. We never intend to recognize in public that we do such things Tongue

I seem to remember that back in .84 or .85 there was a few Liners which held a kind of mini-RP sessions where they requested cargo on the forums and players up to certain ship sizes or levels were allowed to deliver cargo and fuel to "restock" the Liners in space for a decent payment slightly above the market value or so.

It would bring a bit of decent freighter action back to the server if that was brought back, I think. Regardless, I still support this idea. OS&C is a great faction, on par with Interspace on RP potential, since they're both essentially lawful quasi-legal factions, and as an official faction - I say, welcome back, Liners.

Diana, I can help you as a member, but I fear I don't have enough time to lead or co-lead another faction. Besides, I believe Zynth would be far better as a leader - he's faction veteran, knows majority of its Disco history and mod lore.

@ destructivemesures

Yes, Orbital delivers also luxury stuff or luxury food - for example Baden-Baden fisheries are good example of nice development of that corporate faction in Disco. It would be perfectly inRP to see Orbital Stork or battletransport trading Luxury Consumer Goods or Pearls.

In theory OSC is unattractive faction, but in reality Orbital can do almost everything:

- smuggle banned goods to their resorts (Cardamine, Artifacts..) (smuggling got significantly buffed)
- trade luxury goods (trading got buffed)
- fly around in a liner and roleplay tour guide, interact with other players - happened to me once, DHC and RHA were fighting in Omega-11 when OSC| Liner jumped to the system and started roleplaying. "And this is radiation-filled system and source of Diamonds for entire Sirius, dear passengers. Planet Deidus is...". It was really nice to roleplay with OSC.
- organise combat events about protecting liners from terrorist attacks, and if failed it gives another opportunity - RPing negotiating ransom for captured passengers.
- roleplay theme park - there are infocards about dinosaur-like animals living in Sirius, I wanted to make Jurassic Park as OSC:

[2013-09-10 18:34:10] Ronnie: actually. Playing OSC gives you an excuse to basically anything.. from simple tour operator to smuggler
[2013-09-10 18:36:46] Pavel: I had once crazy idea about joining OSC and organising inRP some sort of Jurassic Park on Erie. Awesome RP material, you must admit.
[2013-09-10 18:45:56 | Edytowano 18:46:06] Ronnie: Besides gaia we don't have any living, vibrant planet really...
[2013-09-10 19:04:50] Pavel: It's not that bad Ronnie

http://www.discoverygc.com/wiki/Erie
"The ecosystem of the planet was exceptionally rich with various land and water species, and in some way resembled Earth of Triassic period."
http://www.discoverygc.com/wiki/Planet_Akabat
"Many local flora and fauna include many types of reptiles (both land and water), several species of mammals, and various bacterial life forms."
http://www.discoverygc.com/wiki/Planet_Carinea
"An oddity in the annals of human exploration. While initial surveys indicated a seemingly idyllic world of thick forests and low fogs, the first expeditions to make planetfall quickly learned that an essential component of the planetary ecology was a fast-acting organic poison fatal to human beings. Every plant and animal examined on the planet contained this poison to one degree or another and any plans for settlement were quickly abandoned."
http://www.discoverygc.com/wiki/Planet_Yuma
"Yuma is a lush world that is seemingly ideal for human population, with vast seas and a wide equatorial band of humid tropical terrain. Since the planet's discovery in 640 A.S. by Zoner explorers, there have been multiple colonization attempts, all of which failed. The overly aggressive native flora is capable of re-growing in cleared land at astonishing speeds and is capable of choking out synth crops, requiring any colonization attempt to be well supplied from outside sources. "

Sirian furs originate from Tomioka, too.

- it's just few options for OSC RP, Disco has vast unused material for really good Orbital faction.

Now, to the point with difficulties - sadly majority of people join corporate/"cashmaking" factions only because they want to earn money. OSC with its roleplay is unattractive for them, don't count on being insanely active faction with recruits applying every week.

However, what is possible to-do, is gathering hardcore roleplayers and faction fans. People like Melanie Tyler, Zynth... It cannot be just average players, because sooner or later they'll get bored or leave. You need good roleplayers who know what they do and are dedicated to the faction.
Recruiting complete noobs and 'raising" them as you wish is what all "cashmaking" factions do, but it's longer way - first you must teach the new member everything about Disco and its basics, and often explain concept of RP.

The next thing is being active leader. VWA - Bundschuh faction, worked and got officialdom because at some point Lunatic started regularly logging and encouraged members with his example to be active. Naturally in that case leader and majority of members should be from that same or similar timezone - leader from the other side of the planet will play while other members sleep or are at work/school, and vice versa.

By the way, Lunatic is such "hardcore RPer", from that kind of those I mentioned earlier, I'd try to recruit him.

That's just few advices I can think of now, if you need help, need to know something, or created OSC chat - PM me, I'll gladly help and join.

Hello,

Please forgive me for delay but I was very busy with my RL. However, I read all these comments and I would like to thank you all for encouragement and suggestions, in the early stage of the initiative. Now, although I'm a little disappointed that no one wants to lead this faction, I decided to do it myself at least at beginning. So... anyone who wants to join us is welcome to come! Also, there is a feedback channel for all those who wants to help us!

Thank you again!
Diana

Glad to see you went forward with this Diana.
I hope to have fun interacting with your faction out in Nagano sometime.
