Earlier earning enough cash for cau8 dred in an hour was called cheating/bug exploitation. Now, action with pretty much same result, often with zero risk, is called game feature.
Isn't this problem, if people can pretty much avoid interaction with others, neglect normal, healthy trading and jump right to system with buypoint? Going with cargo to Conn was turned off from obvious reason, but doing that same by different means, and just few minutes longer, is ok?
Jumptrading is cancer killing Discovery. It wasn't entirely well thought-out addon to the game. No transport should be able to jump.
Not only Barges; all of them.
I have reached the point, where I am glad we still have people who wish to, as you said, get said cap8 dread.

Well, I'm going to put my two cents worth in here.
Take DSE) as an example. Yeah, we jump trade.
We have more interaction both within the faction (Group chat is usually always RP) and more interactions with other folk about the place too. Usually, a jump with us requires there to be at least one escort (Kill the NPCs), jumper pilot, barge pilot, and at least one fueler/loader.
We have been taking people on jumps with us (Usually newer players), asking for security and assistance against pirates who always attempt to hunt us down - and sometimes they will find us.
Compare this to a normal days trading where having two people online and convoying very rarely happens.

In short:
From where I stand, it can be done right. It's not the feature that's broken, its more often then not the players that use it.
I don't know how many of you have encountered Jump traders. I usually do, and that too, as an opposing factor. You can talk whatever you want with them, they wont reply in most of the cases, so, ultimately when you get fed up with their lack of response and just loot/cd their fuel, then you can see them raging, going full OORP mode in system chat and just trying to blow you up with whatever they got.
It is a game feature, that is abused like there is no tomorrow, and there are people who are discussing and debating over other small issues/features that might be abused. Personally, all my encounters with them have been just meh...multiboxing, and what not. Right now, it takes just 2/3 people to fill a barge with ore, jump it to the sell point. I am not joking, I saw the whole process from start to end while on my RFP char. Both of them mine and drop the ore in space. One guy logs the barge which is F1ed outside the field usually and the ore is transported to it. The other guy logs his jumpship F1ed and there they are, in the sell point. I was waiting and seeing all this, if they would utter a word. Not a single word was spoken that day.

But wouldn't a large convoy with all the pilots mentioned above be better and have a higher chance of interactions? And if you're flying around, you have a higher chance of meeting other pilots who you could recruit into DSE).

Then in that case, it seriously needs to be restricted. Recently, I've met an influx of Jumpers and their barge(s). Not a lick of them seemed to be interested in RP, they were just spamming ooRP messages and lots of ')))' when I tried to RP with them.
And it's been shown that even official factions cannot be trusted to jump responsibly and still uphold the standards of an official faction.
Either we roll with a suggestion to change things, such as mine, or we simply look into heavily restricting the usage of barges and jump drives. Perhaps limiting them only to official factions after they have applied for one via a SRP.
Jump-trading has NOT killed anything.
I mean common. Sure you cant see a lot of transports on the lanes ??? Maybe?
Really if your just mad becasue you cant do the same you can always get a group of people (oh look that's activity) in transports and 1 jumper and just jump. Same thing as a Barge.
Pirates will still be busy. Not everyone jump trades. There are always the lawfuls to pew.

The point of piracy isn't to pew lawfuls...
Thats not the point that I was saying, buddy.
The point is that it doesn't happen often and there are always traders running around space.
There are miners too. Didnt you think that? When DSE for example gets its ores to jump trade then where do you think it all comes from?
Another thing. Notice that in Jump Trading you have to jump AWAY from your destination. And its slow. If you can get between that then your golden.
