I'll take it into consideration. It has to be said though, I'm not really fond of getting my freedom limited. But "mania interrogations" sound way too good... We can talk about it later, I guess.... maybe in person? I prefer that over these messages.
Whenever we are conducting operations chances are that I am in the middle of it. Just ask our operatives, maybe they can patch you directly to me. Or if it is your wish we might arrange a meeting at a precise location and date.
My my... I could've guessed that the Lane Hacker professor is busy as always. A meeting at a precise location and date sounds way better than consulting your operatives. The question is..... When, and where will be the meeting preferable for you?
Ames Research Station was a commonly recognized neutral ground. Even Liberty Security Force and Kempeitai were usually keeping their nose out of the freeport. Therefore Lane Hackers, Liberty Rogues and even Xenos were commonly using the station to conduct their affairs with their business partners. Professor Nicole Hunter was sitting in her personal lodge with an older man smoking a cigar. A glass of milk, ashtray and a portable sound dampening field generator were laying on the table. Nobody could eavesdrop the discussion that was about to end.
- You did good job, Mr Bower. We are very pleased... I am very pleased.
- Thank you. But it was nothing. The transaction went very smooth.
- I know and I like when it goes smooth. However, for the time being I wish to send you to Kusari. Here is the list of your assignments.
- Very well. I will leave immediately... or do you wish me to keep you company?
- No Mr Bower. I am expecting a guest soon.
- Good bye then, Ms Hunter.
- Good luck, Mr Bower.
The older man quickly left the lodge and disappeared in the docks, while Professor Nicole Hunter was sipping her milk and slowly going through mission reports.
"Konbanwa, Nicole-san. Pardon my late arrival. The so called law enforcers wanted to dance a little. For the last time in their lives...."
The usual soft voice could be heard, followed by a gentle laughter. Then, from the corner, Kurumi appears, taking a few steps towards Nicole. A gentle smile can be seen on her face.
" The Professor can't break away from all the work?" She says, glancing at the mission reports, which Nicole have read.
Kurumi took a seat in front of Nicole. Making eye contact with her for the first time is always a strange thing, and she knows that too. Her bi-colored eyes curiously observed even the slightest movement she made.
Nicole eyes left the small portable neural net terminal and met Kurumi with smile. She locked her terminal with a gesture and put her both hands on the table.
- Konbanwa Saeki-chan, if I may be so bold. I am very happy that you managed to come. I was quite anxious to meet you in person.
She unlocked the terminal with a complicated gesture and turned it towards Kurumi. A small three dimensional photograph of Kusarian girl appeared with a dozen of information bars below and a handful of text fields. More interesting ones stated probability of psychosis on 67% and unwanted child alienation syndrome on 78%.
- Ataraxia, or if you prefer Tranquility, a not so secret population control project by the LSF. Basing its analysis on all available data, mainly from Neural Net - such as social media posts, shopping lists, trade lane logs - it builds a psychological profile of a prospective criminal and sets appropriate threat level warnings.
She interrupted the explanation to show Kurumi most interesting fields in her dossier.
- Ataraxia says you are a very interesting criminal, Saeki-chan. Please, do not feel offended by those mere approximations. The project is based purely on neurolinguistic behavioral patterns and a faulty logic - something to be expected of the LSF. Its results are nothing compared to the experience I am having now. Ataraxia says you are a criminal, but I believe you can be so much more. The question is what can I do to help you reach your potential, Saeki-chan?
Nicole Hunter smiled gently and looked Kurumi directly in her eyes. It was obvious that the Professor was not only observing her Kusarian interlocutor, but also carefully analyzing her every frown and grimace.
"You can skip the formalities if you wish. You know exactly how -much- I care about them." She says, still keeping the same, friendly tone. " Anxious? I wonder why..."
She carefully looks through the data, displayed on the terminal. None really seems to surprise her, she even nods when she finds some data to be accurate.
" It seems the LSF did their homework. Shame, that almost half of it are mere speculations. But with the psychosis part, they did hit the nail on the head...." The gentle smile turned into a rather psycho one for a moment.
" I was almost sure that something like this exists. Oh well. It changes nothing."She reads through a few other data, just to see what the LSF thinks about her.
" Interesting criminal? Oh, I have heard that plenty of times. From both side of the coin." Her expressions remain the same, until Nicole's question. " A question like that.... is a double edged sword, I guess. As always, you didn't ask that out of good will, did you?" She leans a bit closer to Nicole, with a curious grin on her face.
Nicole blocked the terminal with gesture and moved it away. She smiled and her eyes betrayed this self-confidence when you have your prey exactly where you wanted it.
- I hope you were not offended by the dossier I showed you, and if so, please forgive me this faux pas. I just thought that you would be curious of what the System thinks about you.
She stopped for a while and drank a bit of milk. She called a waiter and ordered Kurumi her favorite - at least according to the LSF dossier - drink.
- And naturally, you are completely right. What you need to know about me is that I am a careful observer. I see opportunities and when applicable I seize them. My gain in this conversation is inevitable. In the worst case scenario I will spend time on a pleasant discussion. In the best I might win a resourceful ally.
She once again interrupted her monologue to sip her milk. She also taken out her personal box with cardamine injectors and offered them Kurumi.
- However, the opportunity must present itself first and this has not yet happened. So I will have to once again ask you what can I do for you, why did you even want to meet me and what exactly do you want to achieve?
