/showinfo can be used in various RP ways. As an example, I once flew my transport with 2 units of Synthetic Marijuana. When police stopped me, I told them I have a prescription from doctor. This prescription was written in my infocard and police could read it easily.
Here's a little tutorial on how to create your infocard:
<paragraph number>: The paragraph the following command and text applies to. Valid paragraph numbers are 1 to 5.
<command>: 'a' for append to the paragraph and 'd' to delete all text in the paragraph
<text goes here>: duh
Example:
/setinfo 1 a SOME TITLE /setinfo 2 a Text in second paragraph. /setinfo 2 a <space>I just wanted to add this text to the second paragraph. /setinfo 3 a Text in third paragraph.
/showinfo me
Code:
SOME TITLE
Text in second paragraph. I just wanted to add this text to the second paragraph.
Text in third paragraph.
Further actions:
/setinfo 2 d Removes whole second paragraph. Third paragraph moves up and looks like second paragraph (but it isn't).
Yeah, most people don't know that such a feature exists. As example, cody has set his info on his chars. It's just sad. He spent hours to write all this RP but no one recognizes it, just because no one is aware of that feature. That is one of the reasons, why I am not using it.
Showinfo is a cool feature; I use it for almost all my ships, but the main reason people don't look at it/use it often is because you have to know the command to read what has been written, and most people can't be bothered to type the command each time they see another player in space. Which is a shame. If there was a way to hotkey it (maybe using a macro?), then I think it would be much, much more common.
