dockable battleships have been done - but on servers where the four hour rule was not in effect - it made for good battles, where the object was the DEFEND the battleship, and try to pop the BS of the other side...
Freeports are the economic hubs of the zoners - if they moved 'em, traders wouldn't know where they were, and find it hard to buy/sell stuff on them, which would affect the zoners massively
*evil grin* but if you could move a FP right next to the end of a power-trade run, making, oh, ooooooooooodles of cash in like 10 minutes - dock, sell/buy, undock, move 100 metres, dock, sell/buy, move 100 metres, reoeat.... buy cap ship.... go oorp.... pop lots of fighters.... get bored.... leave server......
it would get rid of the oorp cap-noobs once and for all
I vote yessssssssssssss! for all the wrong reasons!
LOL i got one... Ok so someone has a civilian bs (if there is a thing) And hides a corsair gunboat inside, and enters liberty XD. "Um..... pilot whats this im picking up on my scanners" ".......my....... my comb"
Actually, i like the idea, make them impluse 40, no thrust, cruise 200, and no sheilds. think of it like a player controlled weapons platform that doesent... ya know suck.
Okay, first off Zygoeths, all this "lolwuting" is making me think you don't even role play on the server..
Second, to Coin, The power trading disaster you describe actually happened already. It was in the system with Planet Harris (One of the Taus, cannot remember..), and you would buy prisoners on the planet, undock, and sell them for twice as much on the BS right outside Harris. It was back in 4.83, back when the system was a modern day New York. Terrible disaster..
Also, a player controlled station make 0%Role-Play sense. If stations could move, then whats the point of Trade Lanes, Hmm?
actually i see if going in another direction, very slow, no cruise, very heavy armor and shield, not able to use gate or holes use them as system defense platforms.
edit:
no commodities but able to hold the line against invasion fleets
People are taking what i say wrong, when i mean moving, i actually mean playable. I think a super expensive non-moving, player operated freeport with trade would be awesome. Could be two types of station, trade and defensive. OH and also, when i mean freeport i mean station :\. Lolwut, my internet talk has NOTHING to do with anything roleplay wise....
Not possible if you intend to have people trade from when they are docked with the station. They COULD do the normal trade with the trading screen as with any other ship in space but not when docked. (Since how player docked ships work is interesting, they are essentially bases that are created for them and so the money can't really go to any player in particular, to the best of my knowledge anyway)
I see now. You would buy this station and have it placed and simply act as a stationary guardian and outpost.
It would require some way to tow it, and it wouldnt be around when the player was logged off.....:(
"Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to several friends of mine, they like to keep a fixed distance from me most of the time, and they have a tendancy to spin and gyrate on multi-directional mounts faster than you can compensate for. They disgorge 75 isojoules of subatomic disruptive destructive energy. Fear the tachyon cannons"
