I think "openly" means consistent equipment, actions, etc. of a faction without having their ID. More clearly, open alliance over time, not in just one battle. Simply saying "I like the outcasts more" in the given example and joining their side in that one instance is not violating the terms of the ID; joining an Outcast party and raiding various Corsair systems is completely out of character though - that's open alliance.

If you ask "Who is going to pay me to fight for them?" in system chat, and johns_Raider says "Ill pay you 1 million to fight for us.", that means that you are openly allying with pirates(unlawfuls).

If john offered you a bounty, and you carried it out on your own, then that would be acceptable.

But anyways, assault on a Naval officer is a crime punishable by death, so i guess you know what this means.

I feel that saying "who's offering the money for my services, I don't care which side, I'm only driven by money" is exactly what a freelancer is..

But if this is to be seriously questioned against rules I think you'll here an upcry, if it's changed in 4.85 so be it, but as of now... us Freelancers with the ID and IFF to match (which takes at least 50 BH missions and then rep hacks, well over 7 or 8 hours) have definitely worked hard to create a "Freelancer" within the confines and guidelines of Roleplay. If this is truly a problem then please contact me (administrators) but until that point I have heard from other freelancers, as well as by this poll, that "Freelance" work falls under that sort of stuff.... fighting for money, not a specific side..

Thats the point, be careful by playing with the Freelancers reputation in liberty space. I wont become loved like a merc by LSF & Co

That's the thing, there has never been a sanction for this reason. If there has been, enlighten me.

It's too cloudy, therefore that statement is opinionated. It changes in 4.85 for the very reason of it being too cloudy and opinionated.

I do believe that the Freelancer ID states in it that a Freelancer cannot participate in unlawful activities. That said, while a Freelancer works for themself, they work the lawful side of things.

If one wants to work on both sides, get the Mercenary ID.

No... The only thing disallowed right now is "openly allying with unlawful forces", which is awfully different to each person.

Thus, the new one leaves no room for perception.

It's called FREE-lancer. Means you're free to do what you want. Following server rules that is. Freelancers are working for themselves, noone else, so you can make whatever you ant, and if it gives you money, the better it is!

But as said before. Be ready for consequences.

Pretty cut and dried really, although the tentative 4.85 description is more accurate.

So you can take a bounty on lawfuls if its in a skirmish but you cant join their group and when the bounty is done so is your 'alliance', at least till the next bounty.

And of course the most important aspect has been mentioned several times, there will be RP consequences.
