i never really noticed, i think all shields suck. heh. but, i voted yes. takes to long to get shields down when you're fighter-on-fighter combat. but , at least their shield is downgraded as equal as mine is.

Since i made the experience that most enemies had Krakens or other particles mounted, i preferred Molecular shileds anyway.
Also a big part of players are using codes and nomad blasters without shield difference.

I seem to recall hearing that it doesn't work that way, that only Pulse guns can have Shield damage that exceeds Hull damage.

I am strongly opposed to making anything more bland than it already is. Every weapon should have a drawback (and the drawbacks that exist now aren't pronounced enough, in my opinion.) I hadn't realized that graviton shields were a huge majority, but if you want to change that I'd suggest you find another way. The different shields will feel more redundant the way you propose.

Slightly off-topic, but I think shields for ships larger than fighters all use the graviton shield graphic/sound. Could that be changed? If variety is life's spice, I'm not feeling it with these shields...

EDIT: Question; what is more overused, graviton shields, or pulse weapons? Which causes the other? That may be an important consideration.

7 types of guns exists, and 3 shields.

Change 1 sort of weapon into G1.0 M1.0 P1.0, not all.

Then 6 types of guns left.

This would make a more-balanced shield situation.

Right now... shieldbusters do so much damage more shield damage to positrons and moleculars that it basically means suicide to mount those in any fight with at least 1 Shieldbuster around (which there always is).

=> if that 7th gun (pulse) does equal damage to all.... mounting different hull hitting guns WILL make a difference.


To me it seems that half of the people answering vote the exact opposite than they actually want.

Seems to be people fear pulse guns more than any other type, so they make the logical counter.

Some balance may be achieved by the proposal, but I'd just as soon nerf or remove them to achieve the same. Making everyone equally afraid of an overpowered weapon doesn't seem to be worthy ends.

One. yes. Right now, every last one of my characters uses Gravitron. It's just stupid not to, and it makes every other shield type virtually useless. Not how it should be.

Two, I don't agree with nerfing the shield busters. Fighter combat takes long enough, making shield busters work the same, or better, is a good idea. Also, if you nerf them at all, their effectiveness against caps will falter even more. Not how it should be.

well - funny thing. my battleship has a positron shield ( cause i liked the name more ) - and my fighters all use faction shields ( zoner / BHG molecular ) - none of them has a graviton...

in the last pvp i had ( BHG in manhattan orbit ) it would not have made a differnece anyway - i was shot at by - i think it was thors hammers? - dunno - red codenames that have no type anyway. - so who cares for the shields when ppl make use of codenames.

personally - i love the combination of buckshots + debs ... and i never felt so much a difference about the shield types. - against stronger shields it makes a greater difference - too bad that capship weapons have no type... .
