Well, Havelock Matheson and the Adamant are rather organic in their creation. The Adamant was the first ship I ever flew on the server, and Havelock just... evolved. I dunno any other way to put it.

It often seems like that for me, but I realized a little while ago that it was really exactly the opposite for me. My characters tend to be created over extended periods of time, with various thoughts, projections, and daydreams merging and reaching their culmination in a fully formed character. I'm really not certain how to describe it. I can't just sit down and say, "Okay, I figure I'll make a character... like this." It tends to take a good deal of time and thought for my characters to reach their full potential and depth.
I must admit that some of my characters are (or at least started out as) rather caricaturized and one-dimensional concepts. One glaring example is Edmund Schiffer, who on the surface could probably be described in just a few words: zealous, religious, fascist, and Germanic; essentially, a member of the Rheinland military. He's gained depth (at least in my mind) over time, and I hope this will show in the way I RP him.
My characters all come from the deep recesses of my mind. I tend to keep a few rough character ideas backed up in my brain, and when I'm joining a new faction or creating a new character, I'll dust off one of my ideas and flesh it out into a more complete story.
I'm still trying to think of a use for that Monkey from Planet Primus..... still haven't found a good place for him yet.
Well, i have one character that doesnt so much exist is just one game, he is like a second personality i kinda slip into in any given gameworld, and with my artwork. His name is Cal Allente (the name first came about from my nickname, which is cal, plus the faction i first made the actual named character on in Eve, the Gallente. Now he exists everywhere i go, and in my artwork. He represents the good side of me. Then theres Silas. Id rather not talk about him too much, hes bad, and he wants to hurt cal badly.
Other characters just pop into my head i guess. Julio Verde is one im quite fond of(hes the captain of a pangal cruise liner, and of hispanic descent), and so is Nosferatu (hes a lunatic corsair who while lost adrift in a gunboat wreck developed a taste for blood, and of course, where weird lunatics go, cultists follow )
i also write my lil bros characters for him (and name them)
I have my ideas from like a sudden flash o' light in my mind, and/or just making a char that I'll have fun to play, like my Liner "The Goddess", freelancer Mia Angel, et cetera.
Most of my day is spent daydreaming. it's always been that way for me. i run through ideas and characters and then have those character go through different situations...then i'll switch characters and do the same with them. it's a non stop brewing of my imagination.
i have to focus fairly hard to break out of it and deal with real life stuff. most nights i have trouble going to sleep because my brain isn't as tired as my body is hehe
I have little scetches of my characters all over the place. Most things are formed from images in my mind, so as I draw a character's face, the personality just kinda comes out of it.
I'm no great artist, and I'd describe my drawing as poor.
After I've found a personality, I'll place that pesonality in various real life situations to see how they'd react. Explore the ideas of it a little bit. Then I'll put that character into a freelancer setting, find a place for them in the NPC world, and build ship, and plot, around that.
Edit: Dreygon, that is probably the best avatar I have ever seen.
