for me mining was the fastest way to make money to buy ships to pew. i did find mining boring and tedious but was the most profitable way to make cash. i don't mine anymore as i have all the ships i want. glad they fixed dublin mining field, i remember it being awful to mine.
Speaking as one of the caretakers of this account, I have personally reinvigorated my fondness for mining, but it comes with a big asterisk that it is the pre-4.85 mining that I find the most fun. No self-mining, no friends in transports and no POBs. You sit in a field with a freighter or other small ship and prepare 5k of ore, then you scan the playerlist for potential buyers or, even better - post a mining operation notification on the forum to see what shows up.
Even when you sell the ore for 1k per unit, the amount of money you make as long as you have a few people running it for you is amazing. And it is even better profit for those players, given that most POBs sell it at a cost of 3-4k per unit.
The signature of this post should pretty much explain the specific kind of approach as well as the reason for it, but it is the gist of it.

I can not say that you have to worry about RP mining at a POB solo. Because if it is a good POB there will be every now and then an oportunity for RP, with other Traders, Miners, or Pirates, after Pirates with Authorities etc... Then you have to make Traderuns to sell if the POB is full, many RP oportunities again... With Pirates or with Escorts you can hire. If you know there are Pirates around, hire a Player in New York as escort is really good RP if you find an veteran who is interested, which is really possible if there are hanging around some Player in NY. Entertaining Stuff, and less solo as it sounds! And between all this relaxing mining and listening to good music.
edit: if it would be onley for the money i would have stopped long ago, cash will get quick a secondary thing if you mine a bit... depends on everyone as person, but i have still fun with mining combined with hauling.

As someone who loves to mine, no matter for how long and if I get cash or not I will always mine. As I already said to so many people, I enjoy mining more then PvP.

I enjoy mining both because it does make some nice cash, on top of this its relaxing. For the same reasons I like Elite Dangerous for trading, or Euro Truck Simulator for driving. Its mindless, I can listen to some music and play some netflix or something in the background. I also make POB owners happy, and mine often for traders. It is not unusual for me to run into a transport in Omega 11 looking for a hold full of diamonds. Or a base that needs some commodity supply to sell. Sure it can be seen as boring, but its an important part of the RP and the economy. If you ask me PVP is a small part of the greater overall RP that makes up this game, and mining if one of those awesome parts that can be great!

Hey everyone, I sincerely appreciate all the replies & feedback regarding your experiences mining! After trying it out for a week, I have learned to love mining too as a nice break from navigating trade lanes back and forth. I particularly agree that watching a TV show, Movie or listening to music while Mining is a great combination. It can be very relaxing and laid back not having to worry about crashing into planets accidentally.
Personally, I am watching the Expanse Season 1 - 2 while Mining Ore which I find very appropriate. I think I will keep my Hegemon as I really like how resistant it is to all the pesky fighters that bump into me while I am mining. The Rhino Freighter mining bonus for DSE sounds interesting but the hull strength and lower max shield class seems troublesome to me.
Which Mining Vessel / Ship do you guys use the most and which faction/ID do you prefer for Mining?

You, ofcourse, use/choose what fits to your preferations. In my case the ai is just somehow tickeling the shield of the Rhino... well at least where i mine. With copper ore and the Rhino (DSE) i shoot +-16 stones to have it filled up and i think i have full bonus... and as this makes me dock/undock a lot quicker than i would do with a bigger cargohold, somehow the ai disappears in many cases from alone after docking and undocking so they somehow do not tend to accumulate and never do notable damage.
I am very interested in this threat, and the posts of more experienced miners as i am. I am basicly a new miner too.
