The only reference is the tag and the forum name, but even the tag isn't the same technically so I don't see the issue.
The point about 20th century political systems is moot as we have lots of communist factions already.

We have the Mollys, who are left wing in regards to labour rights but who are also nationalist.
The Hessians, who are revolutionary socialists, but arn't communists.
SCEC and SCRA are obviously internationalist communists.
The Unioners are Libertarian Syndicalists with a conservative Imperialist history, so they're a mixture of left and right in different areas. They're anti-statist but also anti-monopolist.
The Gloaming Flotilla, who are unalloyed Anarcho Syndicalists.
The League, who are Mercantile anarchists.
Most other factions are corporatist, or militarist.
There's only two communist factions. It's also important to note that Discovery Syndicalists and Discovery Communists arn't in the same bloc as one another and quietly oppose one another.

I'd have given the Coalition the same advice had I been around for their creation. There was no evidence that the Coalition in Starlancer was Communist so there was no need for their Sirius incarnation to be, but it is what it is. Bad idea or not, we're stuck with a recreation of the Soviet Union in Freelancer. Repeating that with another 20th century drop-in isn't a good idea.
EDIT: Also, yes I used to be in SCRA's HC way back in the Bronze Age, and I did defend the Coalition's communist RP against exactly the argument I just made. That was because the deed was done and I thought it was a bad idea to go back and retcon existing RP. Bad idea or not, we were stuck with it and moving forward was the only real good option we had. You have a chance to start clean. Don't recreate the mistakes of the past just because precedent has been set.

To add lore:
The BUF, unhappy with the friction between the Mollys and Bretonia, sought to resolve the conflict through the democratic system. The party gathered support from Bretonians across the sector but never enough to gain any significant power. Officially the Mollys are still seen as a terrorist organisation to the BUF, but in order to retain popularity with the Mollys and Bretonia citizens alike the is an unofficial truce between them, leaving the fleet to focus on more pressing matters such as liberating Bretonian systems back into the fold and pushing back foreign invasions of the sovereign Bretonia systems.

What ID are you planning to use
And who's behind the alts,
You are saying that there won't be vitrol (which only a select few people use as a statement anyway) but are then hiding behind alts?
In the interest of 'transparency' why are you hiding behind an 'Alt'?
Now, it is quite common for people who start 'new' Factions to do so with a different Forum Name to their 'normal' one.
That being said, this could be a new Player trying out an idea of his. I am more inclined to believe that because the first Post is not all 'flowered' up, which one would expect from an experienced Player.
