A Class 8 1.00 sounds interesting, considering you could mix them in with Archangels, which would benefit ships that don't have 6+ Class 9 slots.
I'd just be happy to see Blasters and Cannons buffed, since it feels like it's been close to a decade since everyone and their cat was using their original overpowered incarnation (best-in-class energy efficiency and top-tier dps).
I'd even go so far as to introduce a third Adapted Gun as a 700m/s shield buster, but maybe that's stretching things a bit.
Here's an idea to make one or both of them unique: Give them best-in-class dps on hull for their refire rate, but completely useless against shields. Alternatively, you could make them mediocre at dealing damage to both hull and shields, with a twist: Damage dealt to shields and hull are equal, which is something that hasn't been done before. In either of those circumstances however, it does remove the benefit of being un-typed shield damage. Just tossing ideas into the pool, here.
...I kinda miss standard 16.67s, though. I'm pretty sure the problem with Class 8/9 guns with 16.67 is that you can have 4 or even more guns with such a high refire rate. The Maxim and Corona are limited to 2 per ship, but in most cases you'll only ever see 1 on a single snub. Now, imagine a 3v3 where one side has 12 16.67s. That's 200 projectiles a second - Yow! Still, I don't know how the server would handle it these days.
