Cadiz Base, Omega 5.

Cadiz base was a warzone. Even from the jumphole to Cambridge, you could see the bright gun flashes of the war. Mankind was so hostile.

"This is Corsairs alpha 5 - 2. Requesting permission to dock. We have one hostage."

"This is Cadiz. Your request to dock is granted. Please proceed to dock 4."

Mort'dered was met with somewhat hostility on Cadiz. Escorted by 2 men, she was lead into a small enclosed room.

Seconds passed.

Seconds turned to minuites...

Minuites turned to hours...

Suddenly, the door opened once more. A man stood there.

"Out" He said.

She was lead once more down the coridoor. The tunnels of Cadiz were long, tight and claustrophobic. Darkness and shadow moved around every corner... haunting from within.

An abrupt turn lead her into what looked like an interviewing room.

A man stood at the desk infront of her.

The escort held up a small piece of paper to the unknown figure...

"Medical reports." said the escort.
"She's artifact addicted?" Said the unknown figure.
"Perhaps she could be of use to us..." said the escort.

The escort left the room, slamming the door shut behind him.

"Well..." The unknown figure began.
"Umm..." Mort'dered began. "Why am I here again?"
"You... Let me put it this way. You can be of high importance to us. In exchange for your life, we are going to assign you as an escort for an artifact smuggling convoy. You will be allowed to keep your artifacts for now. If you obey our command, you will be given a small share of artifacts. Our medical reports suggest you are... highly motivated by them." said the unknown man.

*silence*

Mort'dered thought on it for a moment. The corsairs were a bunch of canniballs who terroized and pirated in Bretonian Space. She had always thought of them as a bad influence to everybody... Especially as they were allied to the Hogosha - the ones who had tortured her father before he was expelled. It was the Hogosha's fault her father was killed; the BAF still believed he was working for them.

Then again... Artifacts. She could gaze into them. See the sights she couldn't see. Know the facts she couldn't know.

If she didn't take it, she would be killed anywyay.

"I'll take the deal. But you have to garuntee I will get artifacts."

Well, today is the first day of my first "Artifact Run". Quite boring. We undocked from Cadiz with a strange transport. I was put in a Legionnaire that day. I roamed around the ship - It was quite... barbaric... but yet efficient and powerful.

We undocked from Cadiz quietly, avoiding patrols of hostile red hessains along the way. Guns flashed and buzzed in every direction. This was not a place of peace.

The Omega 41 jumphole was not far away from Cadiz. It was here that we docked, and we were taken millions of miles away into a completley different system.

Omega 41 was a desolate system. Asteroids marked the neverending darkness beyond, and radiation had most people sick or dying. In the center of the barren world lay a beauty to be admired. A pulsing shrine of light, a dark nova of wisdom. The beauty in the midst.

Despite the fact that the corsairs waltzed in and out of this system every day, my entire wing became sick with radiation. For some reason, I was unnaffected. My fleet was chewing pharmaceuticals all day.

After a few hours, we arrived at the Omicron Theta Jumphole. Once again, we set off to another destination.

Omicron Theta was alive with activity. Zoners, corsairs, freelancers, even the odd bounty hunter zoomed in and out of the system.

Yet despite the activity, Omicron Theta was sight to be mavelled at. Green clouds whispered of the unknown and the stars shone their light onto another unknown star system.

However, the corsairs wouldn't tell me what they were doing here. They just told me to shutup.

We stopped by on Freeport 9 for H-Fuel and maintinence. The repairs were cheap, however, they stated it could take quite some time to repair.

I settled down in the bar for a drink. I help my favourite artifact in my hand. My toy. The artifact that was... Different from all the rest.

I was approached by a somewhat ecstatic woman. She was scary at first, but soon convinced me into believeing alot of things. The more I drank, themore I felt the same way she did. In the end, she handed me a small pill. I was doubtful at first, but the artifact in my pocked was literally yelling at me to take it. Perhaps it was also due to heavy intoxication.

-

I felt sick the next morning. Not a normal hangover. I felt really sick. Was it the pill she gave me? I don't know.

I met her down at the bar again. She was still somewhat ecstatic, how she wasn't sick, Im not sure i'll ever know. She told me the truth. She was a cardimine-addicted outcast, dropping by here before she was due to return to the northern omicrons. She told me she felt sorry for me, being enslaved by the corsairs. She gave me an entire pill-box full of cardimine, smiling and waving as she left the bar.

The next day, we set off for Sigma 17. The jumphole was not too far from Freeport 9, in a green cloud north of the freeport. We docked, hoping our journey would end soon at the other side.

Sigma 17 was simply beautiful. Enticing. Attractive. Addictive. It's suns shone in three different colours, illuminating the system from edge to edge. Nebulae and asteroids were scattered amongst in zones with human bases obscurring the beauty that could only be called nature.

Fortunatley for me, I discovered that this entire system would be spent in-flight. More time to marval at it. More time to enjoy the time with my artifacts.

Soon enough, we arrived at the Sigma 19 jumphole. I needed to rest soon - I was getting flier fatigue, even if the damn ship was on autopilot! The corsairs ignored me, as usual. We continued on to jump, to the Sigma 19 system.

Sigma 19 was almost the same as sigma 17, yet its difference was the thing that astounded me most.

We headed for a nearby planet. I thought we were going to fly into the planet, but I soon discovered we were to dock on the Luxury Liner Hawaii.

We docked on the Hawaii. Inside was... Luxurious, but nothing compared with the beauty of the stars and the planets beyond. We were supposed to meet a Hogosha operative here, however, we were told we were to head to Kakamura Depot in the Okinawa System.

I was genuinley afraid. The hogosha. Their name inspired fear into my mind. I was heading into Kusari once again. What on earth would await me there?

We headed for the Honshu system. We had been flying for almost 36 hours straight, and I was desperate for some rest. Once again, they ignored me.

We docked with the Honshu Jumpgate, avoiding hostile GMG scouts. Light buzzed and whirled around me. The journey was nearly complete.

We were met with high hostility on the other side. We had to maneuver around hostile attackers coming on from all sides. Some Farmers Alliance ships attempted to halt the oncoming attacks from the GMG and state police. We fled the area, heading straight for the Okinawa Jumpgate.

Unfortunatley, being part of a corsair group (although I still had my Civillian ID), we couldn't take any tradelanes. The journey to Okinawa was tedious. We arrived at the jumpgate several long hours later. We managed to smuggle the cargo through Kusari State Police scans as we jumped into the Okinawa system.

I begged and prayed for a miracle. I did not want to face the Hogosha.

Honshu Jumpgate, Okinawa.

The system of Okinawa was once again peaceful. Yet amongst the peace, hidden chaos lay deep within the clouds.

Mort'dered Mercuriale and her fleet arrived in the Okinawa system to be met by a somewhat hostile force.

The Golden Chrysanthemums.

"Well would you look at this. It seems to be our lucky day."
"Golden Chrysanthemums! If you know what's good for you, you'll leave us alone."
"The Golden Chrysanthemums do not show mercy on our enemies! Engaging corsairs!"
"Defend the Transport!"

Mort'dered powered up her guns for the first time in her life. She didn't want to kill the chrysanthemums if they could save her from the hogosha. Nevertheless...

Guns flashed and fired. Suncannons met with Salamancas. Starkillers met with mini-razors. The peace and serenity of Okinawa was disturbed once more.

Suddenly...

"This is Hogosha wing Delta CS42. Need some help?"
"This is Corsairs alpha 5-2. We're under attack from Golden Chrysanthemums. Need assistance!"
" Affirmative. "
"This is Golden Chrysanthemums Theta 4. I've had enough. Retreating".
"Hogosha - take the transport to Kakamura. We will take care of these Golden Chrysanthemums".

The Golden Chrysanthemum ships fled slowly but surely into the purple cloud ahead, with Mort'dered and the cosrair escorts following closely in pursuit.

The chase was long and tedious. Engines roared and sounds of missed Train Cruise Disruptors could be heard echoing throughout the cloud.

The Corsair wing was closing in, fast. The Golden Chrysanthemums would have no chance now.

Suddenly..

"What th- AARRGGH!"

A Kusari Battleship had appeared, as if out of nowhere! Guns firing, razors flying here and there... Motars blowing up left and right... It was chaos amongst the peace.

"This is where you die" said the Golden Chrysanthemum.

One by one, the corsair wing was shot down. Now it was Mort'dereds turn.

"Wait... This one is a civillian!" exclaimed the Golden Chrysanthemum.
"What do we do now?" said the Battleship Matsuda control center.
"Bring her in."

Once again, slowly but surely, Mort'dered was taken hostage. A large tractor beam was shot by the battleship.

She was being taken in.

Battleship Matsuda, Okinawa

The Battleship Matsuda was alive with Golden Chrysanthemum activity. The most powerful ship in existance amongst Kusari Unlawfuls, people amongst the battleship were not ordinary members of the public. They were usually people who had proved their worth.

Mort'dered felt both privelidged and scared to be amongst the crew of the ship. Unlike the corsairs, most people here gave her a sympathetic look, rather than a look of anger and hostility.

"Wait here".

Hah, doesn't this seem familiar, she thought, her mind re-winding back to Cadiz.

Fortunatley, this time was quicker.

She was taken into an interrogation room. A middle-aged japanese lady stood on the other end.

"I am going to make this simple" she said.
"Tell us what you know about the corsair smuggling route, and we will allow you a place in our society. We have found that you were once a xenoarchaeologist in Bretonia, a land we now fight for against the Kusari - ... What's wrong?"

"Cardimine!" Mort'dered croaked...

The lady at the other end drew a match from her dress. Incense was lit and an aroma spread around the room, curing all symptoms from lack of cardimine.

"A land we now fight for against the Kusari Empire. Sendai Research Station have need of such researchers against the Wilde threat in Tohoku. If you do not tell us, you will be killed."

To Mort'dered, this option was simple. To be amongst artifacts and researching was something she yearned to do since she had investigated the artifacts amongst the corsairs.

"Good. I'll have you transferred to Sendai immediatley".

Sendai Research Complex, Okinawa.

The trip to sendai was short and unhindered - Golden Chrysanthemum and Blood Dragon patrols alike. Clouds grew brighter and brighter as Mort'dered approached Sendai calmly, where a blood dragon was waiting for her.

"Greetings" said the blood dragon. "I'm here to escort you to Sendai".
"Ok, Thanks" said Mort'dered. "Im not sure if sendai would allow me to dock."

"This is Blood Dragons gamma 6 to Sendai Research Complex. Requesting to dock with fellow researcher."
"This is Sendai Research Complex. Your request to dock is granted. Please proceed to dock 5."

Sendai Research Complex was mainly made up of research facilities. Alien artifacts and other items were strewn about the research desks. Many researchers stood over computers and microscopes, examining what lay beyond.

The Blood Dragon gestured to a nearby empty research desk.

"This is your research desk. Its next to mine, just in case you need anything."

Mort'dered smiled. She knew what she had to do know.

There had been something that was bugging her ever since she came to Kusari...

Mort'dered placed her "toy" on the research desk. Ever since she had flown into Kusari, the artifact had began pulsing strangely... Short bursts of light and radiation that had become ever so frequent the furthur she had flown into Kusari...

"What's that?" the Blood Dragon asked.

"This..." said Mort'dered with a long smile "is what has been troubling me ever since I got to Kusari".

Mort'dered place the artifact under the microscope. This was it...

"I know what that is..." said the Blood Dragon escort.
"What is it?" asked Mort'dered curiously
"Let me go get it. You can come if you want."

Mort'dered and the Blood Dragon walked down the corridoor into the Blood Dragon's private room.

"I know its in here somewhere..." said the blood dragon, looking through his files.
"What do you think it is?" asked Mort'dered
"I don't know, but i've seen something simillar before though... on a flight when I was once a soldier of the Blood Dragons..."
"Don't you miss being out there in space, fighting the KNF?" asked Mort'dered, sliding onto the bed.
"Well... Sometimes I miss the action. Here it is. Evidence suggests that the closer this type of artifact is... blah blah blah... would suggest that it these artifacts are in fact Nomad Power Cells, often originating from Kusari..."

But as the Blood Dragon turned, he saw nothing. Mort'dered had already left the room.

Mort'dered stared into the heavens beyond Sendai Research Station. The Nomad Power Cell buzzed furiously. She knew what she had to do.

"I need to go to Tohoku" she said to the Blood Dragon.
" Tohoku...?"
"Yes Tohoku. That is where I can find the truth to this nomad power cell." said Mort'dered.
"Well... it's a bit dangerous..."
"I need to go. I will go alone if you do not want to come with me"
"Ok fine. I'll ask for a clearance.

"This is Blood Dragons Gamma 6 to Sendai Research Complex. We're headed for Ryuku base, Tohoku. Just dropping off some research notes."

"This is Sendai Research Complex to Blood Dragons gamma 6. Affirmative. We will notify Ryuku. Safe journey!"

Nagano Jumphole, Okinawa.

"I don't feel this is the right thing to do you know." said the Blood Dragon to Mort'dered.
"Don't worry. It will be fine. This nomad power cell is reaching for something out there. I must find out what it is."

Nagano Jumphole, Tohoku.

"Are you sure about this?" the Blood Dragon asked.
"For the last bloody time, Im sure!" replied Mort'dered.
"Ok! Ok! Fine. Ill just go out a bit and scan the area..."

Seconds passed...

Seconds turned to minuites...

Minuites turned to hours...

Something was wrong.

Mort'dered sat petrified with fear in her cockpit. Whatever was out there... Her love would not return.

The nomad power cell was pulsing at a ridiculous rate. She was just about there. She looked onto the horizon.. She saw nothing but the Nebulae... and... Heaven's gate.

Thats it! Heavens gate, but heavens gate had been deactivated for years... Unless the wild had been... No... Wait...

Mort'dered Slammed on the cruise button on her ship, turning all engines to maximum power. Maybe it wouldn't be too late.

20k onward....

There was nothing but the wreck of a Blood Dragon Very Heavy Fighter. Tears leaked from her eyes and onto her cheek.. He was dead... and she didn't even know her name.

Then suddenly, she heard voices in her head.

Could it be real?

Was she insane?

***Human... 'Dead' last...***
***No... Weak? ***
***...***
***Us...Light...'Them'...***
***Absorb...'it'***
***...-***

Mort'dered turned around quickly. She was surrounded by Blood Dragons. Her heart stopped beating. At least she could count on them not being infected.

"We're sorry madam. He was killed by the Kusari Naval Forces just awhile ago."

"I... Didn't even know his name..."

"We will take you to saftey... follow us please"

"But..."

"... ... ...

Now!"

The hostility surprised her. She didn't know what to think. If she didn't go, it was likley that the Kusari Naval Forces would get her anyway.

The fleet appeared to be heading first to Ryuku base. Then she found they were changing their route.

They were heading for heavens gate.

"But..." Mort'dered began.
***Impatience...*** she heard.
***Light...Absorb.. 'Kill'?***

"Don't worry madam. Not long to go."

Heaven's Gate, Tohoku.

The interior of Heaven's Gate was somewhat strange. Energy pulsed from section to section yet the interior seemed somewhat in ruins, possibly from a large blast. The majourity of sectors were still intact however.

***Now?***

Mort'dered was hearing voices again... She was sure... Unless...

Were there infected Blood Dragons?

***Yes.***

*CRACK*

Mort'dered dropped to the floor. Blood oozed slowly out of her cranium, trickling onto the floor below. She tried to open her eyes, and failed.

Everything went black.
