Not every single faction. The LPI, LSF and LN don't all need their own ship line. I don't even agree with the Lane Hackers getting theirs, but since someone made it, then it doesn't matter. Some of the more secluded factions, like Xenos, would have started out in Civilian ships. But they're long since Civil, and by now they should have started developing their own lines. It's easier to replace parts for ships that you built, than ones someone else did.
Way I see it, if someone can be bothered modeling a ship for a faction, then they should get that ship. Even if it were a Xeno Gunboat. Slowly, every faction will probably get at least a few ships for its' own ship lines, I think.
I like the idea of variants of fighters and ships for different factions, and I also think the number of capships should be reduced. For example (and don't all flame me at once), why do the Zoners need all those capships seeing as technically they have no enemies?
The biggest capships should be restricted to just the main house navies, but to a strict limit of say half a dozen battleships/carriers, and maybe a dozen smaller ships like cruisers and destroyers.
Pirate fleets could have a limited number of cruiser sized ships as they could have stole them from the main houses during raids, but mainly they should have fighters, gunships and bombers.
Corporations should never have capships bigger than a gunboat, they would aquire escorts from mercenaries, freelancers and house navies/police.
That is my thoughts, but its probably never gonna happen
What I think would be better than a shipline for all factions, would be a unique civilian shipline for each House. Then, instead of so many factions using the Eagle line, they can instead use the civilian line from their parent House.
Factions that flat-out shouldn't have their own ships, let alone caps, already do, and woe be to the one making the decision to take those ships away!
Unioner's Arbieter, FA Bomber, GC fighter/bomber, Hogosha Black Dragon are excellent ideas.
Gaian Gunboat, Hacker Spyglass, Blood Dragon {insert cap here}, etc, I don't agree with.
But again, they're already there. You can't re-purpose them either (Renzu anyone?) b/c they're all too closely affiliated with their respective factions. The Gaian GB COULD be sent to GC, and a slightly less effeminate variant could be put to the Blood Dragons as a result, but mostly those ships are there to stay.
I wasn't implicating any faction per-se. I personally think the BDs should get multiple, multi-purpose fighters and other things of that sort. I know it's kinda too late to take them out though, so I guess it sticks. I'm not exactly sure what the Blood Dragon's arsenal is, so I think I'll keep my mouth shut.
Back on topic, I think it's a good idea to make specific ships for factions. So together, they have one ship line. My example was with the Farmers and Hogosha. They both have fighters and use them equally, but because one is produced by the other, it gives more flavor rather than having redundant ships. Which was why I was kinda disappointed when the Outcasts got their own gunboat, because they had the Rogue's gunboat. I thought it gave the alliance between them (as it was before in 83 and 84) a symbol and flavor. Ditto for the Corsairs and the Osiris. When you have an alliance, a ship is the perfect symbol of that alliance.
Realize that I'm talking about pirate factions, House navies should not only have their own shiplines, but lux liners and all that.
"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."
I don't think every faction should get a line. I don't think every faction should even get a distinctive ship. I was, personally, against the FA bomber, Gaian Guboat, and Unioner Fighter and the GC shipline. Why? None of us have any of the resources to build anything like that, and there is no need for it, as long as the civilian line remains as available as it is currently. I don't even think the IMG should have their own line.
Some ships are needed. Most ships are not...
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
Well... the re-textured ships idea is nice, and I support it. But I'm not against big ships for entities unable to construct a ship line, as long as they are added as a one-of-a-kind deal, like Necrosis or Spyglass.
I would really, really like to see faction specific Eagles/Borderworld ships, etc. Police hussars/paladins and BAF hussars/paladins, GC Eagles with huge chrysanthemums...et...cetera...
But the construction of ships by all the different and varied factions seems a bit overdone.
