TLDNR: It's much easier and better for the community for us to restrict members than speech when it comes to fostering a culture where people are allowed to self-regulate the day-to-day - and that's personally the direction I'd rather go rather than to strictly police speech

Kinda feels like they'd like the latter option.
Anyhow, is common sense really not enough? Others stressed it already too. It really should be all you need. Don't draw distasteful or even outright illegal or grey area references to real life, especially politics and conflicts. Shouldn't be troublesome to see why.
