From a non-RP point of view as well, you have just erased one of the most recognizable and populated systems off the face of Sirius. There are going to be no end to the complaints from doing that.

that aside, you'd still need a good reason for the star to explode. Most of the stars in freelancer are main sequence and dwarfs, they dont just go boom. Perhaps a nomad attack with a superweapon, of mayby the shadows have something that can kill stares.
