Sound not working

TCC please provide more informaton: OS, directX version, mainboard, soundcard/chip etc.

You can check with DxDiag if you got sound issues on the direct x level.
Just a reminder: Freelancer is using DirectX 8

@Weed and others: Do NOT delete the SOUND folder.
Unfortunately there is not fix for that full volume bug when alt-tab back.
But if you do not use music at all you can rename the MUSIC folder and the SOUNDS\AMBIENCES folder.

I'm sure that has no use, as my Freelancer sounds have been working perfectly always, until about 2 months ago. Then sounds began to cripple. Every hearable thing in the game is gone now. Though, it may be indeed DirectX as I installed some other games recently.

I have this problem too and would appreciate a solution... it originally worked in a clean OS install, reinstalling FL doesnt work. I'm on vista 32 bit, nvidia chipset.
