Do you also believe in Santa Claus, that the storck delivers babies, and Dusty Lens has cuddled a kitten he didn't intend to eat ??

' Wrote:Quite interesting. Just for the sake of curiosity, could you tell us some tech detail about the old and the temporary configurations?
The temporary hardware is a Fujitsu Siemens desktop machine, with a P4 HT processor running at 3.4 GHz, and with 1 GB of PC3200 DDR ram.
It was a surplus machine used previously for wordprocessing and nothing else.
The old server from the Czech Republic, I do not know the specifications on, except being told it has been overclocked to 4 GHz and has 4 GB of ram.
The donated server that will be used for Cannon's split universe system, is a Hewlett Packard DL120 U1 formfactor rackserver, with a Xeon Dual Core CPU running at 3.0 Ghz, and 4 GB of ECC Ram.
The temporary server can be seen to the left in this picture, the one with the blue lights. Next to it are two UPS's that will be used for the two servers, and the rack cabinet with our phonecentrals, servers, switches, routers and fibergateway.
The rack cabinet is placed in our serverroom cooled by a 3.7 kW Daikin wallmounted cooling and dehumidifier, maintaining 18 degrees Celsius. Incidentally, we allso store the beer for our TGIF farewells in the server room.
The DL120 will be mounted in the rack cabinet above the screen you see inside it. The old server will be placed next to the machine inside the rack cabinet.
Everything will be connected by 100 Mb Ethernet to the Cisco switch further above (not in picture), and from there go through our firewall, our router and our fiber gateway.
The connection at current is a 10/10 Mb/s fiber with a 5/5 Mb/s ADSL2 backup. The fiber connection will be upgraded to a 25/25 Mb/s fiber connection after newyears.

Until the old server is onsite the only permitted combat is supernova and minirazor sniping.
Also the use of mine explosives and missiles are not only for girly-men, but they also increase server load too much and I have decided unilaterally that missiles and mines are banned forever.
One's use of beam wepons only is directly proportional to the level of testosterone in your bloodstream, and one's general level of awesome.
The problem I've been having most is being lag-dropped. It's happened three times to me just today, and yesterday it happened in the middle of RP. It happens really randomly too. I'm not shooting or fighting, and sometimes no one else is even in the system.
Thanks to MikeyH for the banner.

The reason you are experiencing this :
' Wrote:The server is overloaded and is coughing blood when we have more than 70 players
When then server has too much to do it gets itself into a situation where the queue of messages from players is growing faster than the server is able to process them. These messages contain information like "Player XX has fired his gun at Player YY".
The average time to process messages in this queue is called the 'server load'. The normal server load should be 40-60 ms with occasional peaks at 140 ms. If the server load exceeds 5 seconds it is automatically restarted. This is happening a lot lately.
The solutions to this are :
1) Have fewer players.
2) Get a faster server.
Just because you aren't fighting, or nobody near you are fighting, doesn't mean someone else in another system isn't. A stalled out messagequeue on the server affects everybody, not just those fighting and generating those messages the server stalls on.
