Quote:In relation to diamond trading, blood diamond (also called a converted diamond, conflict diamond, hot diamond or a war diamond) refers to a diamond mined in a war zone and sold to finance an insurgency, invading army's war efforts, or a warlord's activity, usually in Africa.
That's what real blood diamonds are.
I guess the previous post of the diamonds being mildly tinted red means we're talking about two different definitions for the same term.
' Wrote:Also, speaking of slave labour - come on, don't say what you don't know. Ther is no sign of Hessians using slave labour, on the other hand, they tend to liberate them.
But it's not the point. The point is Blood Diamonds, the red ones. I don't know of any process able to turn white diamonds into red but yes, its 817 A.S. and there are sounds in space, so better check it two times.
red hessians =/= socialists
And even if they are socialists, they are national ones. Well, quite patriotic.
Face it
Slave labour.. well I saw few threads about hessians using slaves but yet i'm not sure 'bout that.
In real life, Blood Diamonds are diamonds mined by slaves or in places where there are civil wars to control diamond mines. Most well-known version is in Africa, where they are called Blood Diamonds on account of the fact that so many people are killed in the fighting to control the mines. (See: Blood Diamond movie)
In Discovery, they are called Blood Diamonds because 1.) They are a red color. This is a natural process. Diamonds come in many colors in real-life naturally, including pink. 2.) They represent the blood the Red Hessians have paid in their fight against Rheinland. They are a status symbol, bought by those that support the revolutionary movement in Rheinland.
Naturally reddish diamonds are just diamonds that were irradiated during the formation process or afterwards, or have been subjected to larger than usual pressure which misaligned the crystal lattice and gave them a reddish hue as a result of the imperfections. It's a natural process like Dab said.
Anyway the reason why they are called blood diamonds in discovery is not because of slave mining (which is not the case) but because of the bloody conflict in the Omega and Rheinland systems which is systematically ignored by the rest of Sirius and suppressed further by the Rheinland government. Being much rarer than normal diamonds, they are a good source of income for the Hessians as well, and - while being smuggled to Liberty - as a result also for the Unioners and Liberty Rogues.

Wait a second, to become red for usual white diamonds... it definately requires science. But it should be quite a difficult process to make diamonds red, after all, they are pretty solid, so it wouldn't be too reasonable to make them red whatever they represent.
You have the internet, & you have the ability to answer just about any question you could ask yourself. If you did that, you'd know that the bolded part of your statement is wrong. Anyhoo, as Dab has said, diamonds come in multiple colors...& the most common colors on the planet are yellow & brown. Red & green are the most rare, but they do exist in nature. The stereotypical colorless 'white' diamond that everyone thinks of, is because that is what the retail market mostly sells.
De Beers is the company that not only controls the vast majority of both supply & demand of the stones, but also, public perception about them. Diamonds are not the rarest stones on the planet but thanks to De Beers & decades of propaganda & their control supply & demand, they were able to artificially inflate their value, conditioning people to think they are worth the over bloated price.
Technically speaking, a blood diamond is considered any diamond that is not registered & certified by that company first.
::Edit- Ninja'd...that's what I get for trying to post & work for a living at the same time *shrug*::
So the blood diamonds come from Tanglier planet in omega-47. Good. And they are initially red.
Well, the next question is - when hessians fight over diamonds and diamond fields in, for example, omega-11, do they get usual uncut diamonds? Because, you know, its what are being mined there. And if yes, then how the hell do they make blood - red - diamonds of it? And if they dont, then why don't they sell usual diamonds for smuggling?
And what does omega-54 miner mine there?
I want to know all this just because i want to understand what can Hessians mine.
When Hessians capture uncut diamonds, they usually fence them to the Junkers. After all, they still fetch a good value. They don't sell regular diamonds for smuggling, because they don't capture enough diamonds from Daumann (usually end up destroying them on the spot most likely), and because they don't convert them into polished/processed diamonds, and just sell the ore as it comes.
Omega-54 miners mine raw materials for shipbuilding, which are transported straight to Wolfsburg and used on the spot.
For those wondering how diamonds can be of other colors.
Quote:Pure diamond should transmit visible light and appear as a clear colorless crystal. Colors in diamond originate from lattice defects and impurities.
Colored diamonds contain impurities or structural defects that cause the coloration, while pure or nearly pure diamonds are transparent and colorless.
