Yes, it was far better than any of the other 3d flicks I've seen. Rather than making things "jump out at you", the 3d tech in avatar actually pulls you into the world, the environment pops out around you while the characters remain onscreen. Makes everything feel much more immersive... but it does have the tendency to make you get dizzy, at least according to some other viewers.
I never got dizzy during the movie, but there were times when the 3d effects made my eyes go "WTF?" like "what am I supposed to be focusing on here?" - other than that, and the uncomfortable 3d glasses, it was great.
Pretty brilliant movie indeed, although I expected a lil more about the scenario - The 15 years of writing had my attention.
Still, fascinating world, deep characters (for most) and very intense action.
