I'll admit, there were some silly GB introductions with 4.85, but look at it from this perspective:

The Junkers are a smuggling/salvaging faction. This means we are quite wealthy and skilled in the workings of ships and such. We have the skills and the money needed to back them up.

Then look at our enemies, the Hogosha. They have access to: The Gaian Gunboat, the Corsair Gunboat and the Kusari Explorer (or at least they did up until 4.84. I still remember seeing those buggers raiding Alpha). What is our counter to those ships? A transport with 5 gunboat guns and a SHF. Yeah...

There are wealthier factions without them. Im serious, RP justification counts for nil. Just get your GS and leave me alone [color=#33FFFF]Q_Q

The Waran is actually quite wonderful, no need to 'Roc' the enemy.

I would love it if the Junkers got a Gunboat. I really would. I've had numerous Junkers in my time here, including two Salvagers, two pirate Trains, a Crow, multiple CSFs, at least three Collectors. In my opinion, most of the Junker tech just isn't built for combat, unfortunately. Most of their ships are massive, underpowered mutations of various ship classes, with a larger Cargo hold ( Collector, Salvager, Recycler, whatever).

But do the Junkers need a Gunboat? Do the Junkers really have to fight that often? And, if your primary concern is Hogosha Gunboats, why don't you just get a bomber and kill it?

defend against it with the same kind. View it from the perspective of a junker leader. There was once a novel i read
where a guy developed a device to remotely destroy any underwater mines. Someone asked a country's leader
about it, the answer was this: "If he haven't sold it to another country then we should get it first so we have
the advantage, if he has sold it then it's even more important to get the plans so we won't have to suffer
from their advantage."

Meh, I don't really care whether the Junkers get a Gunboat or not. We should just wait for 4.86, when there will hopefully be a 'Civvie' gunboat available for free use.
