Liberty Dreadnought is great at fighting other battleships. So what should this be good at?
It can't be better in fighting heavy ships than Liberty Dread, because then we are in the realms of Nomad Battleship.
So it could be more "allround" = more light turrets, more sideways turrets etc, not sure if that fits for this rather "smooth/slim" feeling model.
Speaking from someone who has never flown a liberty dread, how are they good at fighting other battleships?
I had the option to buy one a few months ago but opted for the Rheinland Battleship. The main reason was the RM BS has almost double the health and more weapons. I always assumed the Liberty Dread wouldn't stand much of a chance against one in a fight? (1 v 1 of course)
My second thought is that carriers are not really carriers in this game. They don't actually do anything that a carrier does. It always seemed to me the Carrier was just a model put in that could stand a chance against the Rheinland Battleship, or other super heavy Battleships.
I could be wrong since, it sounds like you know what you're talking about Mjolnir maybe you can shed some light on this.
The general rule of thumb for freelancer seems to be "the smaller and more agile, the better". normally, in most cases, this is proven time and time again, but there -are- many situations where "bigger" is better. for example, if RM bs was to come 1k close to a lib dread, it can easily tank the damage whilst dishing out superior amount of firepower, ending up winning, or how a barghest (super heavy bomber) dominates when it comes to taking down caps fast, but how it gets pwnt if a you throw fighter escorts into the equation (bear in mind, im not taking into consideration any godly pilots, everyone is equally skilled in this example), and something like a falcata would have more survivability chances, allowing to dish out more damage over time.
the Lib dread is actually kinda small for its medium plant (but its a vanilla ship, so hasnt been touched/modified in terms of size etc, same for the dunkirk).
while this model is vastly superior than most models ive seen, i agree with the general sentiment that it looks alot like a lib dread on steroids. whilst in terms of maintaining that "liberty look" you get 100/100, im struggling to find something unique in this, and thus warrant a model replace for the carrier. the current one, regardless of quality, is a completely different design than the lib dread, something i like. what i suggested to luis, perhaps use something like that- asymmetrical design, 1 launch tube on one side only)?
carriers, dreadnoughts, juggernauts, battleships, just different names for the same thing. no matter what you want to RP it, the fact remains is it will be one of three options- light, medium, or heavy class battleship (difference is the powercore/armor etc). so with that in mind, the balance needs to be done accordingly.

Ask Malexa what happened when he brought his Cap Armor 8 Rhienland Battleship against me in my Cap 7 Armor Liberty Dreadnought.

Who said Carriers should be able to fight better then battleships at all?
But give it some HP.
What the...why has the Liberty Dread a medium plant?!
Wait...isn't the Osiris-class ship supposed to be a "newer version of the Liberty cap"? The Osiris has a small plant.
Now it's clear to me, why the damn Dread is the "best cap". Small, thin and a good plant.
But - this thread isn't only about the Liberty Dread.
I think this replacement looks good, the width seems to be ok, a bit thinner than the actual carrier, but, it's ok. As said before, it should be good, but not better than the Dread. As a carrier it isn't supposed to be the "best cap".
Without reading all the post, I'd like to ask only one thing ...
Apart from that door - alike thing, what makes this a carrier ? Cause I didn't really notice anything on it that would make it a carrier ...
More like the extra large dreadnought that is used to be .... no offense, the model itself is awsome, but no way it looks like a carrier, and I doubt you would be able to get this into game, cause , as Karlo said, there's no need for a Lib Dread Mk II.
Detail wise it looks nice, probably cause you've been working a lot on it, but I don't know what role it could get ...
How does a Carrier in Freelancer look like? The Aquilon only has that large Opening, the Geb has it's Tubes, except of that they don't have anything that looks like a Carrier.
Carriers here on Earth only look like Carriers, because they all have that huge Landing Pad.
