If You talking about geometry of a catching up - what angle would be if I'm flying strait out of the jumphole and the pirate is spawn from that jumphole too and getting me like I've said before?
It's not about being Stupid, It's about being Inexperienced.
Maybe while you think you're everything right, you're doing something wrong, which leads in the chaser getting 0.2k closer per sec, as you say.
Still, there is a trick to catch up with someone else, but not many know it, and not many of those who know, use it, cause it's more or less abusing a bug in the game engine. But, even with That, They'll get around 0.2k closer every 45 seconds, not every 2 seconds.
If it was only One person, I would've suggested giving his name to admins to check his files in case he is trying to be tricky... But when you say It's been happening far too often, then I'm afraid it must be you.
Also, one thing you must know about jumpholes/jumpgates is that players with Higher Pings/Lower FPSs spend more time in the jump cinematic than the ones with Lower Pings/Higher FPSs. That might be part of your case.
My internet connection is 10mb/sec, ping around 20-30 msec. This is not my technical or etc problem. Anyway, if I'll see this happens again, I'll post here names.
Lighter craft such as fighters and bombers will catch up to heavier ships like trains. It is how it has always been. They just seem to be able to catch up. Not that fast. But if you have a stubborn trader that you have the time to hunt down, it works.

i've seen it too many times.... freelancer getting old... slowly everyone knows the old "dirty" ways to abuse the gameengine:D
but if this pirate really catch up with this speed (0,2k each 2sec) he used any other way. cause for this he needs a speed of ~450 when you fly 350 cruise
i know a second way a friend told me a long long long time ago... he changed any file... so he was allowed to use formation (F4) to each target he wants... ok thats cheating but does the cheat detector regist. that?
and the good old speedgear program... i've seen some players with it too since i play here... they fly a little bit faster, their weapons shoot a bit faster and so on... the only thing that happens when they use it is a higer ping/lag. on my old server we never found a way that the cheatdetector kick them cause this programm dont change anything in the files of FL

Sorry, not true at all. The time spent in the JH/JG animation is exactly the same for everyone. 13 seconds except in bretonia where Jumpgates are of a better quality, so the duration there for JG passage is 12.5 seconds. This is from the time you enter the JG/JH (you loose control of the steering) til you exit the JG/JH (you regain control of the steering).
