We haven't actually supplied [LN] with any guns. I would know, I personally handle all tech requests. We gave them a license to use the weapons. We will supply them if they ask, since they've agreed to pay the amount we are asking. If the other houses want to use civilian grade weaponry, we'd be more than happy to sell them weapons too.
Other than our greediness we have a very strong reason for granting them a license. This is our reason. OSI is a company primarily focused on trade. Our headquarters is on Freeport 14 in the Yukon. I think its clear why we gave them permission.
We talked about it for a bit before we did it too. We are well aware that it will carry consequences, its part of the reason it was done.
You pirate types, I know some of you run into us, how are we doing? I've a butt load of new recruits, and I want to make sure they understand that a pirate encounter is not something to get all bent out of shape over, its part of being a trader. Let me know if you think they acted like a dolt when you pirated them so I can adjust their attitude.
Also, as far as faction role play goes. Anyone have any comments? I'm talking about the role play of the entire faction here, not just in game or such. We're a supply company that is starting to stick its fingers into other markets. As far as relations go, we tend to view other Zoners with the same neutrality we view everyone else with.
Okay I am not a pirate type but I do have some feedback. In Curios' thread he suggests the limitation of the Border World Series to factions which don't own their VHF. I actually agree with this opinion and I also support the cell for Freelancers/Mercenaries to change to white.
(Note: I am not aware of any changes in the technology spreadsheet which will happen in 4.86 or generally in the future)
Furthermore, I am thinking which faction in-RP creates these vessels. I am sure that Outcasts have their own shipyards to create them, but still if they had the intel to create the Border Worlds Series, they wouldn't share it with many other factions. So Outcasts probably "bought" that intel from another faction which developed these Series. The only Border World faction/industry I can think of is Omicron Supply Industries.
However, reading your brief Introduction in the Faction Status thread, there isn't any reference to Industries... Where are they? If they produce the Border World Series and sell Zoner weaponry Sirius-wide, they must be highly developed/expanded. Are there any plans for OSI production facilities in 4.86 ?
So... if we find some sufficient in-RP background for the production of the Border World Series from your faction, you could actually control/distribute this technology to any future white cell IDs.
PS. I know I have actually opened many issues, but I feel it's useful. I am sorry.
Good questions, I'll do my best to answer what I can and for anything I can't, I'll send Victor over your way to follow up.
We do have a bit of an established roleplay involving our Barge being refitted as a materials construction facility for a good bit of Civilian, Borderworld, and Zoner technologies. The thread that's used as the face of the business can be found here. We've got most of the Borderworld series snubcraft in there and the business actually works pretty well, since it's also our way to go about licensing our tech. In addition, we've been bouncing back and forth on the idea of whether or not we're going to buy a system of our own, and if we eventually do, it'll most likely have a dedicated shipyard or two as well as a production facility for the craft. For now, though, the Barge is our only current "production facility", and unless we get a system or something changes quite a bit from what we're looking at right now, there's no plans for any more OSI-controlled stations.
The only reason there's not more emphasis on production is that it really is a secondary role for OSI. We're primarily a shipping company, of course.
Of course, given that the Borderworld series is civilian in nature, I really doesn't see a good reason as to why limits should be placed on who can and can't use the tech. Someone wants a civilian ship instead of his faction's fighter? As long as the faction is okay with it, why not? Indies, of course, have their own leeway on this too. That's my opinion, though. If the Devs decide differently, we'd roll with that too. However, according to the lists, there's going to be dedicated Zoner snubcraft in .86, so under the guideline Curios proposed (and if I understand it properly), we'd also lose out on access to the Borderworld series. Have to see where that one goes.
I think a little reference about the Barge and the production of ships/weapons in your Faction Status thread could be helpful. Other than that, I think you fully answered my questions, keep up the good work !;)
I guess its that time again so giving this thread a bump. Love us or hate us, share with us your feedbacks and opinions here. Got a bone to pick? Come on over. Constructive criticisms are most welcomed so long as you don't try to steer us to your own agendas, so tell us how we're doing. ;)
We've a bunch of fresh traders. Let us know how they are doing, let us know how OSI is doing, and let us know if you think there is something we should be doing!
Wasn't too pleased by the encounter in Tau-23. If you don't have credits on you, well, too bad for you, you die, end of story, deal with it and all that.
