To me, the IFF is something like the transponder signal you are sending.
I imagine navy transponder codes are reserved only for navy, and hard to copy/fake.
But Freelancer IFF is just a trasnponder code that says "I work for myself".
So if I am LSF or Order and I want to work under cover and not send a "Im am this and this" code, why shouldnt I be able to send the "Im a Freelancer" signal.
Maybe, IFFs could be obtained from factions by asking for te right to send their transponder code, like you can ask them for certain equipment.
Like an Order ship tells IMG that they want to be able to send an IMG singal to be undiscovered in their operations, and IMG may or not grant it, just like they may or not grant gun requests.
What do you think?
And how is the rule situation at the moment? Couldnt find anything about that, just about equipment.
Don't see any problem with that. In fact, i heard that having no IFF means that sometimes people will pick up random IFF on you based on their previous npc meeting, or something. I use that for my indie pirate, he'd like to be less detectable and more confusing.
