In that regard, the Hogosha are very much like the Junkers. Most of them are just civilians with an honorific title.
Dusty_Lens Wrote:This is largely incorrect. The Hogosha are an independent entity which utilizes a mixture of social integration and political pressure through means of blackmail and grassroots force to maintain a certain air of autonomy from the law. They are in no way a "illegal hit squad".
Furthermore, the fashion in which they operate demands recognition of the fact that Kusari is not a fascist state, but rather a constitutional monarchy with a broad hierarchy of elected officials to govern the various aspects of state. If this was not the case the Hogosha would be largely incapable of functioning over the course of centuries.
In short, the only agenda that the Hogosha further is that of the Hogosha. In this respect they differ considerably from the Farmers, a group with which the Hogosha are usually lumped.
Finally, the declaration of universal racism against outsiders is also flawed when delivered in absolute terms. The conflict between traditional views and isolationism and progressive views and a more open society is the foundation of the Kusari we have today. From the proliferation of Synthfoods to the pressure of the Bounty Hunters Guild to the conflict between Samura and Kishiro.

Yes, it probably is.
And I thought the Black Dragon Society was probably named after the Black Dragon Society of real life pre-1946 japan, which is mentioned in the video I linked, and which was very influential for the nazi party later on.
' Wrote:They are not very secret. I would say 95% of Kusari people know about Hogosha. Don't forget that Hogosha is divided into many organizations and syndicates.
Also the reason Hogosha is tolerated is the fact noone wants to risk get in trouble with them. They know lot of naughty things about many politicians and officers.
That's what was bothering me somewhat with the Black Dragon Society. I mean, the Hogosha are based on Yakuza, which are a criminal organisation, yet somewhat useful to Japan due to taking care of the lower classes especially.
And they're not hiding their allegiance one bit. The members are pretty much all known to the public and easily recognisable.
Yet Black Dragon Society is supposed to be a secret organisation... Nothing like their RL counterparts. Also, they seem to be the members of higher society (when the Yakuzas come from the poor).

That was my point.
Haven't watch that video (internet is bugger) but yeah it is called after Black Dragon Society of Japan.
Also me and dancing are both right
Quotes from Disco wiki
"The Hogosha have ensured that the complex relationships and connections involved between themselves and officialdom would make any serious attempt to dismantle their organisation almost impossible. Who knows secrets and deals with revered public bodies and individuals that until now had been out of the public eye might come to light in any such attempt?"
but also
"The government simply treats the Hogosha like any other large keiretsu and the Kusari population as a whole has a similar attitude: It is pointless to like or dislike the Hogosha; they are simply a fact of life."

I think you should try to watch the video so you understand the point Im talking about.
Weird, I remember reading mine from an in-game rumor, though.

I guess you could say factions evolve over time or something, I dunno. *Shrugs*

Well sure, but the point is, you could as well view Hogosha, the vanilla faction (& Hogosha indies) and Black Dragon Society as two -completely- seperate entities that actually have not much to do with each other. And probably don't have contact with one another to boot.
I'm not saying the BDS is doing anything wrong, it just has a very specific RP that differs from vanilla Hogosha quite a bit.

Aye. From what i understand the BDS roleplays themselves as the government officials that work with the rest of the Hogosha and help prevent any government attempt to destroy it.
gone four years, first day back: Zoners still getting shot in Theta :|
The Hogosha are nothing more than well-organised thugs. Right now they're lucky enough to swoop through the loopholes in the law, but for 4.86, they'll be more like criminals, losing a lot of the power they had, before the government change.

Well I would say that Hogosha could be divided into two parts. Small but publicly visible part of politicians who are spreading the idea of "pretectors of Kusari people" and also those nationalistic views. But majority are rich traders, corporate magnates, mafians and even pirates with high influence. Those are the people who usually push the black market operations, assassinations and collecting the dirt on politicians. Hogosha is thus tolerated because of they moderately high public popularity and also because of the reason people with power do not know how much Hogosha knows about them. Same goes with police.
As far as I know in 4.86 will still be neutral to Kusari lawfuls but they will loose that political influence I described above. So yeah their position will be worse but still quite strong.
