During my time in disco, and the years spent in many other games that involved roleplay to whatever degree, I will agree that the RP you see out of 90% of people is quite childish and, for lack of a better word, slapmonkey retarded. Then again, 90% of people themselves fit that description to the T as well, so maybe it isnt really an issue with the roleplay so much as the scum-covered cesspit of a gene pool the human race calls its own.
I dont do improv RP much at all, regardless of the game - the most I do is put on an accent or demeanor (as far as text can go with accents and demeanors, anyways) to match the character and otherwise act like myself. My RP was always best when I was writing a story seperate from the game, my stories on these forums are a good example - there, it isnt so much 'roleplay' as simply writing a good story, which is something I dont find childish at all.
At least for myself, I know I can go through moods where I just don't feel like roleplaying and don't feel like putting effort into portraying a character. That's when I go play EVE.:P
But nah, it comes and goes, be it the span of a month, a week, or a day. Sometimes it's just more fun to shoot things and others it's neat to yell at pirates in a stereotypical French manner. Then again, everything is much more fun when done with an air of French stereotype, sooooooo...
Then again, if the feeling persists, it may be time to take a week or two off. Or maybe pick up a new project. Something fresh and new often revitalizes our energies.

It depends on what kind of roleplay you are doing.
There are childish roleplay situations which can be fun but you might have that "immature" feeling afterwards. But roleplay can be very much a very mature activity, e.g. political roleplay, demanding emotional settings, etc...
I think it depends.
The shallower the roleplay, the more childish it feels in my opinion.

I have to agree with cool Mark here, man..when I came to server it was all about RP, lets make something new, something fun, something interesting. Its all stale and childish, so in the end you just make chars, make enough rp to obey the rules and go shoot people cause its a fun thing to do.
It will always be about group of people you fly with, either it be 4 guys you play all the time with, or faction you like. But honestly..its a video game, made for fun,and made for children.
Its a stage of growing up, I don't get sick of Role-play because its like working on acting. Nothing different from it, just a different formate and the other party can kill you.
