I'm pretty much opposite for the half-solutions such as 'let's put them in coma after a tragic accident' or something that transforms the good story into a soap opera, so the ideas to get rid of both or to just 'remove' them without unnecessary drama, while they are having their peaceful life somewehre else sound like the best ones.
