You know how these things spiral. Im not sure how many people would stick with it as a long-term RP thing of theirs when people are almost trained to hate politics these days, especially a dead-end RP so to speak.

That said, if we're talking about simply RPing a politician, that's good.

We are indeed talking about simply RPing a politician. At least I am. And the OP as well I think looking at what he wrote in his 'EDIT'

I don't think you understand fully.
As per the Word of Igiss, right now, during the war, there is no formal embargo.
And yet....there is.

In short, both in and out of roleplay, it is representative of the people upon whom it's actions have the greatest effect. That will not change.

When we are told that there has been an election by Igiss (via the mod's plotline) then we will change these characters, and use a different attitude to governance.

All I mean to RP is but one of many many elected officials in the Republic of Liberty - Basically, the RP will consist of either proposing/backing any legislature that the players behind Liberty political RP want happening, futilely fighting any legislature that I think would hurt my constituents (either way, what the people calling the shots decide will happen), or proposing minor points of legislature that would benefit my constituents (without impacting any actual RP, IE: Extra funding to lung care for the child labor used in chimney sweeping in Pittsburgh district 523 or something like that).

Apart from that, other RP would involve running for re-election and getting caught in some scandal or another.

' Wrote:I've actually heard something different to that, and after thinking about it a while, I agree with it. That is, Liberty is not only a rip of the USA, but the logical advancement of capitalism. Therefore, Liberty is what America may become if it distills its economic agenda further, but still follows the concepts that America is following. You've a planet full of the proletariat (Houston), many of which struggle with balancing their incomes with the cost of health insurance, schooling for their children and so on. You've a large squatting population on another major planet, representing those who simply don't have the means to live anymore, and you've a police crackdown on them in the interests of those who do have the means. Essentially you have the freedom to be free only if you have the money to pay for things. These are problems in America today, but if Primary Schools were subject to fees of modern Universities? Things could be a lot worse, and in Liberty, they are.

From what I gathered of Liberty, I imagine it to be something along the line of what would happen if we gave the most extreme of the teaparty or libertarian movements free reign of the country for several hundred years (provided that it would last that long). I mean to parody this as much as possible by mixing in various facets of McCarthy-esqe fear mongering combined with the further stretching of privatization to near ridiculous proportions (this stance being a logical conclusion to the fact that the Alliance from which Liberty stems was at war with the Coalition, and there was bound to be quite a bit of demonizing anything that even resembled communism or big government). I'd also include a hefty dose of social darwinism which I think permeates throughout the Libertonian society (what with the rich becoming richer and the poor becoming prisoners for slave labor and all - nobody could do something like enslaving an entire underclass of people as either wage slaves or indentured servants without a philosophy that heavily incorporates social darwinism. at least I hope.)

Basically, I just want to reveal more of the culture of Liberty (I think that there's some dystopian elements into Liberty that was meant to poke fun at contemporary American society that could use some more elaboration - the developers of Freelancer left the joke only half finished, lacking any punchline - something I mean to fix).

Of course, I'll need to consult with people that are more knowledgeable of Libertonian society, and with people that call the shots in shaping it (just to prevent any clashes, and to get our stories straight before anything gets out for public enjoyment).

As I've said before, I don't mean to change anything that hasn't been set to change already, and only in ways that the powers that be have decided to change it.

Savvy?

Does any of what Igiss has written on the issue state that there either is or isn't an embargo?
Last I checked, there's no material at all referring to the presence of an embargo, or the reasons why there shouldn't be one.
Hence, much leeway is provided on that story.

This is the same as any other faction which has been significantly developed by the community. The Corsairs, for example, of which there is absolutely no record ingame of the Road to Rheinland having taken place, despite the fact that it has done ingame and failed.
If that disappears then perhaps you have a point.

Savvy?

@Aeneid: That sounds like a great basis for RP, and the correct way to implement it too. If your idea becomes fully developed, I can see it opening up the not-so-well-travelled path towards illustrating the part of Liberty that it wishes to hide from the rest of the sector.

Of course I hope this is balanced out by other developments in the other houses to avoid Liberty becoming the focal point of yet more factions based on social discontent, but that's a slightly different area of discussion.

Yes. And it will remain in place.
