Be polite and respectful. Learning some basics of Japanese etiquette doesn't take much reading and can be useful as well as interesting. Of course you don't have to do that. Just act like you normally would and gain experience by playing there.

What means by it is to learn basic Japanese words such as "gaijin" and "baka". Don't forget the traditional customs of harrasing people that are not of Kusari blood and being generally unwelcoming to foreigners. Those are the pillars of current Kusari culture.

I've wanted to rp a kusari char, but like the OP, felt I didn't know enough about japanese cultural norms/language to do so properly. The same can basically be said of Rheinland.
That's why all of my chars have been in English speaking houses....
By the by, are GMG kusarian? I assume they are, but am not positive. Now that they have something interesting to do, I must admit I've felt the urge to give them a whirl, but didn't want to make a total arse of myself.
Now, Kishiro is nuetral to Bretonia but Samura is not?
I'm confused.
Bretonia wants to screw the Ronin, thats about that. They dont want the Ronin to be able to get supplies from Samura, so they are doing this. Even though both Kishiro and Samura supported and actively worked against Bretonia during the war.

Old rephacks are still in place, that might be misleading. There's no reason why only one of them should be neutral while the other is not. And seeing how Bowex) is freely rolling through Kusari I'm quite sure both are neutral.

semi-kusari. Their roots are on Honshu, but they claim to be sovereign. From a Samura point of view they are very well gaijins now.
