I've read in other topics that the Vigilante ID wasn't used that often.
Anyway, I played a vigilante in 4.85. It was a fun way to rp, not just a reason to shoot random people.
I was surprised when my vigi ID had turned into a freelancer ID and I couldn't find another vigi ID.
I hope the ID would return, it was one of the few chars I played with.
Besides, it had a lot of restrictions. It seemed fair to me...
Other ID's were merged with the freelancer ID to, right? This means that our freedom on the server is getting more limited...
I'm afraid if you have to explain everything from the start (over and over again), people won't always understand...
So I would say, please think this ID-merging thing over again please.
I can understand you would want to reduce the amount of ID-abuses. But it comes at the cost of, as I see it, to much freedom...
The group which I believe Jack is referring to was a little group I created known as the Kruger Raiders (aka Copper/Silver Vigilantes/Kruger Vigilantes). As for ID abuse, the restrictions made sure it could only be used by the most persistent players. Being only able to dock on a handful of bases + the tech restrictions (most Raiders used bombers due to bomber tech being open to anyone, bar the ship itself) made it quite a pain to use.
However if I remember correctly when 4.86 came out the Vigilante ID had lost most of its restrictions, with the exception that you could only shoot factions hostile to your IFF (thus why the KR vanished, Kruger is not hostile to IMG). Disappointing to see the ID was canned completely, but was fun while it lasted.
There is still a way to create a vigilante.
Vigilantes are civilians who take justice into their own hands.
So why don't we use the civilian ID with a lawful tag/IFF.
But note that the restrictions for a vigilante must still be respected.
Taking justice into your own hands is still illegal.

Civilian ID is now Freelancer ID.
You need to keep within the Freelancer ID restrictions.
If you don't like paperwork then the Pirate ID is your new Vigilante ID.
Just be warned you'll be shot at more by lawfuls than unlawfuls.
But nothing keeps you from bothering unlawfuls with it.
Edit:
Also if you do this, you'll end up with the same docking restrictions as the old Vigilante ID,
Only independent bases like those of the Zoners and Junkers will let you in.
I didn't know so many ID's got merged with the freelancer ID...

Then it seems being a vigilante just got a lot harder.
Thanks for the info, I'll give it try.
' Wrote:The Vigilante ID was abused as a terrorist ID which was virtually able to shoot everything with just a bit of rp definition. There were tons of reports about that, so I guess that this might be a reason it was merged into the Freelancer ID.
You do realize Jack that defines about 85% of the pvp in this game. Merged freelancer ID or not, I don't see Charles Bronson having a conversation with people before he blew them away. And since the Vigilante ID wasn't the only ID to get merged into freelancer voltron, I think the reason came more from the tech nerfs we now see more than anything else. Not how you or anyone define "bad RP."

' Wrote:So a couple of my friends make a few characters with similar names and we all grab various ships and Viglante IDs with the intent to go on to be Bounty Hunters, I log on today and find my viglante ID has been removed and replaced with a Freelancer ID? Anyone know why?
To answer his question you have options:
Bounty Hunter:
Pros:
They are liked in all house systems (except Kusari)
You can get access to house tech, with permission.
House Hunters do have good ships (be a good pilot)
Cons:
You will be hated by default by anyone not lawful
Mercs love to kill you
As talked about they have a lot of paperwork
They say they work in hunting packs, Bounty Hunters are all but dead
Merc:
Pros:
Didnt get paid? dont get mad, pew pew them
You get contracts from everywhere both lawful and unlawful
You work in groups often
Expect to be trained by the best
If you work in groups, you can have the paper work done by one person (not you)
Killing your enemies gets you access to new tech.
Working with a group (MM, Reavers) gets that tech faster.
Cons:
Never met a good one
Be sure you're in a house that likes you or you will be attacked
Roleplay (Hahaha right)
Freelance Merc:
Pros:
You are your own boss
making a faction like you gets you access to their tech
you can choose on the fly if you want to help or be part of the problem
You can move around a lot when you get noticed too much by the wrong people
Cons:
You are your own boss
stiff competition from others
Now that the IDs are pretty much the same, who knows?
You do have to file a report, everyone does.
Personally I believe I RP the only good-guy Freelancing merc in the game. Reffere to the the Cons of Bounty Hunter to see how that's going for me. No one likes do-gooders. In my opinion, a Merc is just a well paid Pirate.
The Viglante has a focused hate against one type of faction or group, sometimes person. They typically dont get paid, thus you need a second character to support that Viglante. They only get access to fighters and bombers, The above three can have heavier ships. Viglante can work in groups but to me, never made sense if they do it all the time. Yes I've watched Boondocks Saints. Few have Roleplayed the Viglante well and therefore may have gone the way of the button candy. And it seems if you do play the Viglante well, it ooc angers people.
Again, with the ID's all joined together, establish yourself as one or the other, make it stick, make it work, dont Q_Q (cry and complain when you lose), and try, Try, TRY to find a way to Role play. I know it can be done.
Hope that helps
