Personally I think it might be worthwhile to merge all of Disco's fighters back into two categories: Light fighters, which are faster, but lower armor and lower power cores (generally with 4-6 forward-facing weapons of class 8-9), and Heavy fighters, with more armor and more power (and generally 5-7 forward-facing weapons of class 9-10).
Heavy fighters are far from worthless - both myself and Sad, and a few others, preferred HF's for indie mercing.
I flew a Kingfisher.
And it kicked ass.
HF's are for pilots who rely on maneuverability and aim - which they have agility edge over VHF's - they cant tank, but they can sure dance. Plus, they also tend to be smaller model wise, which is another advantage.
But they require skill to use that agility, and of course, aim, since you cant spray and pray with a small core - put some good 4's or 303's on there, and learn to dance - youll outfly any VHF.

The Chameleon is not the weakest HF by any means. There are several models that are weaker, some of which are even larger. This pretty much sounds like a qq thread to me. *shrug* I'm not the best with HF's but they are far from useless. HF's make excellent escorts for just about any type of convoy.

Indeed, every time I choose my chars non capital ships, my No.1 choice is a HF.
LF's just can't do anything, even against the most unskilled pilots, too weak.
we got a COMPLAINT about the green rheinland engine clipping in cruise mode with the model. - so we tried to replace it with a smaller one.
reason for the chamaelion to fly 400ms was due to using the smallest green engine ( LF engine ) - which turned out still to be too large ( clipping complaint )
while i agree that the 400ms added a nice uniqueness without unbalance - it would have been UNFAIR against other HF - which do not fly 400.
but first and formost - it was done due to a complaint cause the cruise glow clipped with the model.

Hullo, never said it's the weakest one. Chameleon is almost perfect to my taste.

Thanks, Jinx. Nontheless I guess that due to the placement of the engine on the model it would be exactly the same issue - but speaking of the looks, the bretonian engine is not much fitting the Chameleon, and I guess that's why it wasn't put there in the first place.
It's less about the cruise speed, more about giving the ship the original look. Clipping engine is not a bug, it's a feature.
In the meanwhile, I noticed that I seem to have a bretonian engine on one Chameleon and the rheinland one on the other one.
can t argue with that - the green engine looked good - and i like the rheinland charge-up sound of the engine. - but it had been a complaint. ( i don t know if the bret looks better now - in terms of clipping ... for some players it IS a bug when half the ship is illuminated by a glowing corona - hence the complaint )
other than that - we d have to make a new engine for it - a smaller one that is NOT a light fighter engine to allow it to fly 350ms instead of 400ms. - again - as i said... i do not think it was detrimental in ANY way - but we know disco.
if one faction has something special - everyone wants it - and they ll have good reasons. - so we better try to keep all ships similar in that respect. ( wouldn t take a month until other random pirate and lawful facitons DEMANDED to get a HF with 400 speed, too )
which would result in us having to adjust multiple engines, cause many HF simply have larger exhausts. ( meaning, no LF engines )
in terms of design - the ship was meant to fly with bretonian engines though - like the claymore. - but then - white/red/blue is not better or worse than white/red/green - but yea, green is a bit more gaianish.
Guess it was yet tested by the balance team and submitted into the mod in its original state nonetheless. But I'm still more concerned about the looks than about its balance which is fine with any speed.
